This is drunk comfort food. Perfectly serviceable but it won't wow you. Everybody is right, do the machine gun. It's enough to share and the sauce is pretty good. The merguez sausages were surprisingly flavourful and the fries are very crispy. Pass on the burger. I wasn't a fan of the sauces, and the burger itself was way too small for the bun. Both sandwiches could have benefited from some fresh greenery to break up the fat.... Would have really elevated them. Haven't tried the waffles.... I'm hesitant, but may give it a go at a later date.

The best, most awesomeness, wonderfully delicious Belgian Waffles on the planet. I "used" to visit their ski-in only hut at the Canyons Red Pine Lodge, but since that was taken over by the far inferior generic waffles, I wanted to return to the source and had to make a special trip here on my way to SLC airport. I ordered the torpedo with Speculoos and was in Waffel heaven. * Please come to Florida and come back to The Canyons *

Had the waffles and the fries and both were amazing. Probably the best food I've eaten while in Utah. Quick, friendly service and delicious...what more could you want?

Though the place looks small, the taste is totally opposite. Ricky burger is good but the waffle is even better. Try it out yourselves!

Some of the best fries and waffles I've ever had. Their machine gun sandwich was okay. It's their fries and waffles you should be after!

I really wanted to love this place, but to be honest the biggest pain is the fact that it's too tiny and feels impossible to ever get a seat. The waffles are so so, I prefer ones we make at home. I do like the different sauces for their fries. If a friend wanted to go, I'd go, but otherwise it's just not a place that calls out to me, especially since I do enjoy sitting down while eating my food.

Quaint little shop. The smell of the waffles cooking is incredible. Very pleasant staff. Machine gun was top notch.

The Liege Waffle with Creme Fraiche and Mixed Berries is better then sex. Not much else to say here. Been a big fan of Bruges since they original days when they had a stand at the farmer's market. One bite of their waffle and I am transplanted back in time to a bustling square in Brussels staring at the Mannekin Pis. *sigh*

My bro and I ordered a vanilla Liège waffle with crème fraîche and strawberries, with a side of chocolate sauce. One waffle is definitely enough for two people. There is nothing better than Bruges crème fraîche. It is the perfect compliment to fruit, especially strawberries, and also goes well with both types of waffles. Didn't even need the chocolate sauce. Lesson learned.

I think I've found my cheatmeal for life! Too bad I live in San Francisco. But oh my goodness, their TORPEDO waffle aka the liege waffle stuffed with Belgium chocolate is simply HEAVEN! Just get it plain, as is. It's perfect already. No toppings necessary. Chocolate is really rich, dark, and high quality! Their Monster Waffle with all the best toppings (cookie butter and ice cream!) is wonderful as well.

A perfect Saturday morning- Bruges Waffles followed by the farmer's market. These waffles are fantastic. Get the waffle monster- it'll change your life. These are belgian waffles, so don't expect a healthy balanced breakfast.

Before the Cookie Butter craze that swept Southern California in 2014, my boyfriend and I had the pleasure of having our first bite into Speculoos during our trip to Salt Lake City in 2012. So of course back then we didn't know Trader Joe's actually carried Speculoos and labeled it as Cookie Butter. All we knew was that their waffles were so darn delicious and the Speculoos topping made for the perfect combination! We had the Liege Waffle with the Creme Fraiche and Crunchy Speculoos Spread. Drool! The space is very small and I felt like a sumo wrestler sitting in the corner, but oh well, slurp slurp, my waffles were awesome. Street parking wasn't hard to find but this place was so small we had to go around twice to find it. BIG Kudos to this quaint Belgian gem in SLC! You Utahns are so lucky! Warm greetings from California =).

ambiance//*** hole in the hall is WYSIWYG service//*** they were quick and to the point...perhaps it was lunch rush but the service was mediocre food//*** freakandel was freaken fun lol~ i couldn't resist...the sausage and sauces were yummy, but a bummer their fries were overdone the only winner was the waffle....man stick the the waffle =P ~*~ even though i think this was the first brick and mortar store...it only seemed alright i don't know if it has lost a bit of the magic because of their expansion =\

Bruges Waffles & Frites was the only place I bookmarked on our trip to SLC/Park City. We were in Belgium 3 months ago, where we experienced the most incredible waffles. The waffles there were simple but the crunchy outside and chewy inside made them divine. After returning to LA, I've been trying to find that perfect waffle but I haven't been able to find anything close. When I read about Bruges on Yelp, I knew we had to give it a try. The conclusion is that while it's not quite Belgium good, these waffles were prettty darn delicious. There are a few fancy choices on the menu but I would recommend the plain vanilla waffle with a side of creme fraiche. The waffle had the right crunchiness on the outside but the inside was just lacking a litltle something. The incredible creme fraiche more than won me over. We went to both the downtown and Sugar House locations of Bruges in our two day trip.

I had the machine and boy was it delicious. The frites on it were one of the best fries I ever had. The lamb sausage was very good too. I certainly came here for that since I was a tourist and found out it was featured on Man vs. Food. I also had their waffles with bananas and blue berry but I should've gotten it with ice cream.

Awesome food specially the machine gun sandwich, the machine gun cost $9.75 but it is worth the price.... :-) it has lamb sausage and frites with a special sauce....!!! Yummiest sandwich

Yum!!! I kept it simple and got the liege vanilla waffle with vanilla bean ice cream on top and it was delicious!

I like this little place. It's so small but if the weather is nice you can sit outside. The waffles are damn delicious. Fresh fruit on top...just simple and perfect. Very filling! The fries here are really good too! I tried that gut bucket looking sandwich out of curiosity and it just wasn't for me. Will be back for the waffles becsuse they are freakin heavenly.

Waffles and Frites are great, try the different sauces, the one downtown was better than the other one IMO.

Food made us Ill. Your menu lied. Misadvertisement. Please update your website as we walked 10 blocks in triple digit temperatures for a waffle sandwich and omelette and there was none! Hot uncomfortable environment with warm saliva temperatured water. Blah. Blah! :(

I live 100 miles away so I don't get many chances to dine at all of the recommended spots in Salt Lake. When I finally made it to this place, I wanted to love it, I really did. I was surprised by the lack of a crowd at lunchtime on a weekday, but please we didn't have to wait in line as I expected. I had the machine gun sandwich and my husband had a burger. The sausage in the machine gun was so tough it was more like beef jerky, nothing juicy going on there. My husband's burger was frozen in the middle. Frozen. The only thing we enjoyed were the fries and bottled coke, not enough to justify the $24 price tag. I admit I expected a lot based on reviews and recommendations so I couldn't be talked into giving this place a second chance. I will try something else on my next 100 mile journey.

The real star here is the fries. They are spectacular and they have no shortage of sauces to try. I really like the spicier sauces like the andalouse sauce. It's a perfect snack or treat, in my opinion! I've tried the machine gun sandwich and it was pretty amazing, but the sausage was a little too robust for my liking. I would have preferred a milder sausage so that the sauce and fries could stand out more. It was still delicious though and I would order it again. Now, the liege waffles. Everybody loves liege waffles nowadays, but I've never really been a fanatic about them. I've tried the torpedo (liege waffle with chocolate melted inside) and just the regular vanilla. Both were absolutely delicious, but 9 times out of time I would prefer their fries over the waffles. I'm a potato gal, not a sweet gal. The liege waffles are dense, but flaky like croissants. They are sweet enough that there is no need to add all of those toppings. I feel like I would go into a sugar coma if I added toppings! But if that's your thing, they sure do have a large variety to choose from. The waffles are made from a dough, not a batter which creates quite a unique waffle flavor. These are no ordinary waffles! If they don't offer up a menu, ask for one because it continues more concoctions than what is up on the board.

I was driving through Salt Lake City with my friend and we decided to grab a snack before heading back onto the road. Bruges was one of the top places that showed up on yelp, street Parking was easy to find and free!! It is national waffle week so they were having a special deal on waffles $2 for an original waffle with Belgian chocolate and vanilla cream, we also ordered a small fries with andoulaise sauce. The fries came out pretty quickly and they were super hot crispy and fresh. The andoulaise sauce was really good as well. The waffle took a little bit longer to come out but it was scrumptious. The Belgian chocolate was Soo buttery and rich. The waffle ended up being a delicious sugared mess. I definitely would come here again but probably wouldn't be able to eat as much food since the food is a bit filling and fatty.

I mean it's ok but nothing to write home to mom about. Frites were good. But not amazing. Waffle was too cakey for me. Maybe I am used to the American Belgium waffle:/

  • Sarang Y.

3.5 stars. I liked the waffle. It was crispy on the outside, doughy and chewy, sweet, but still light overall. Didn't really enjoy the creme fraiche, it made the waffle soggy. My husband got the hot dog and I thought it was too heavy and there was just way too much sauce. I guess it's not our style. In my opinion this type of food will be most tasty on a cold snowy day. I'm imagining myself all bundled up with a warm sweet waffle in my hands. MMMMMM.

Stopped by on a Saturday night with friends. One of my girlfriends couldn't stop raving about how she'd eaten the waffles here almost every day that week. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but I couldn't see what all the fuss is about. I had the machine gun sandwich, and according to the menu this item was featured on Man vs. Food... It's great if you're into eating super greasy food that is gonna have you feeling terrible the rest of the night. It comes with lamb sausage and Belgian frites packed between a bun and topped with Andalouse sauce. The meat was just not good to me, I eat a lot of lamb but this one had a weird smell or texture that just put me off. The fries and sauce were okay and I wish I had just got that by itself. The price you're paying for the quality of food you're getting here just doesn't add up. I've also had waffles here and find they are a bit dry, though still a nice, light dessert. I'd recommend the waffles but would stay away from almost anything else.

For a long time, Belgium has been at the top of my list of places I'm yearning to visit. I'm sure there's nice scenery and tourist activities, but I'm mainly thinking about beer, frites, and waffles. This place has 66% of those things, so I was super excited to get a little taste of things to (eventually, some day) come. Have to admit, I was a tad disappointed. The machine gun sandwich seemed like the only logical choice based on other reviews, and I love me some merguez sausage. In this case, the merguez was good and spicy, but the casing was hard to bite through, which meant after each bite I was left with a centimeter of sheath with no meat, and having three skinny sausages piled onto one enormous roll seemed slightly impractical. The frites themselves are perfect, cripsy and delicious, although I could have been happy with a little less sauce slathered all over them. Overall, the sandwich was tasty but logistically difficult. My real disappointment was the waffle. Maybe I've just never had a real Belgian waffle, but this one was dense and doughy, not light and fluffy like I expected. Covered in Belgian chocolate sauce I assumed it would be the perfect dessert, but after scalding my tongue I can't help wondering what sort of heating element their waffle iron and chocolate pot use. Maybe a small nuclear reactor? Maybe when I finally get to Belgium I'll find that this place is 100% authentic and I should just stick with the beer. Until then, I'll wonder if they're just slightly missing the mark.

The "frite" (fries) here are AWESOME! The portions are slightly out of control and all three sizes are gigantic. They're fried in horse fat, which I have never heard of, and is the reason they are slightly crispy but not greasy.

Overview: Bruges Waffles and Frites is a tiny dessert cafe that makes sweet waffle variants as well as a "machine gun sandwich." The Food: After reading the reviews here, I was expecting something a lot more fancy for the price I paid (about $8 for my Waffle Monster as of 1/15/2015). What I got was a sweet Belgian waffle with cut strawberries, two scoops of vanilla ice cream, and some extra sweet crunchy pieces that I think may have been brown-sugar chips. It was very yummy but I definitely felt my blood sugar spike through the roof. For beverages, there are bottled drinks for sale, and free water. I think they sometimes have hot water (I saw a hot water/coffee pump dispenser) in the same area as the serve-yourself-water, but it was completely empty and the lid was left open when I was there. The Service: Excellent. Loved the two guys working here. Very down to earth, non-pretentious, friendly dudes. They seemed to be having a good time and that definitely made me happier too eating there. The Establishment: This is probably the biggest downside. There is literally just one tiny "bar" that has 5 stools around it, but there is no way that more than 3 people could fit here comfortably. There's outdoor seating too but because Salt Lake City can be pretty darn cold during the winter and pretty darn hot in the summer, I value climate controlled seating. The Location: Located a couple of blocks south from the basketball arena in a relatively nice area. Conclusions: If I'm being honest, I think Bruges Waffles and Frites is an overpriced dessert shop that doesn't have the facilities, nor the food presentation to justify their prices.

I came here when my brother was visiting from Los Angeles, and we were not disappointed. I ordered the machine gun sandwich, but unfortunately did not try the waffles that day. Everybody should try the machine gun and come hungry. The sauce that they put on the sandwich is one of a kind and fits well with the meat and fries. One thing that was disappointing about the side of fries was that we got the last batch. All the pieces were tiny and not as fresh as we hoped. Next time I come here, i want to try the waffles because so many people rave about it.

By far the best Waffles that I've had here in Utah. I had the Monster Waffle and it was amazing. It is a waffle with two scoops of ice cream, (I think) a speculoos/Biscoff spread underneath the ice cream with Strawberries and cream. I thought it would have been too much sweet but it was perfect. If you are in the area or are craving waffles I highly suggest Bruges!

Coming from PDX to SLC was an eye opener - strip malls and chain stores stretching in every direction with nary a true neighborhood except for what I perceive as recent transplants trying to convert 9th and 9th. So, I decided to find little niche restaurants that I previously enjoyed. The difference would be that I would car commute to them instead of being surrounded by options. Thus, I finally walked into Bruges Waffles and Frites. Ordered their waffle... BEST WAFFLE OF LIFE. Generous portion of strawberries and creme fraiche with tasty dark Belgian chocolate. The waffle batter is something divine. Also tried their fries (slightly soggy) with samurai sauce and the winter special of beer braised beef stew. With generous basil flavors, the samurai sauce is top notch. Stew is savory sweet and the meat tender. Will be back again and again. Simple options yet delicious flavors make this place a hit in my book.

What can I say that hasn't already been said. I'ts worth going to way more than once. However I do think the single dollar sign is a little misleading, it's a tad pricey especially if youre going for the whole family. I would probably eat breakfast there every Saturday if it made fiscal sense. I prefer the cinnamon over the vanilla. Eat these waffles and be happy.

Waffle is amazing. Machine gun sandwich seemed a bit pricey for what it is, but the waffle is truly amazing. Great fries too - favorite sauce is samurai.

With good reason, when I want to curry favor with my better half, I suggest we go to Bruges for breakfast. Her eyes light up, and before I know it, she's packed our two-year old in the car seat, buckled her self in, and honking the horn to get me out of the house. We first found Bruges several years ago while frequenting the Farmers Market at Historic Pioneer Park in the summer time. They hosted a booth there, and we would pick up a hot, chocolate dipped Liège waffle while we shopped. A couple of years later, Bruge found a permanent location in a building across the street from the Market, right next door to Caputo's. (But don't take your waffle into the deli at Caputo's...there are signs all over the doors warning waffle eaters away.) Not as small as it looks here... The shop is tiny, quainter than quaint. A bar sits against one wall with stools for about five, and the counter where you order is just three feet away. Outside, tables sit in the open air for customers to enjoy the waffles, which are served through a window when ready. They come out hot, in vanilla or cinnamon, with cream or strawberries, or both. If you're looking for a real treat, get it dipped in chocolate, too. A lot of people ask me what kind of waffles these are: are they real Belgian waffles? Yes, and no. They're Liège waffles. Here's what the website says: Like the Brussels waffle, the Liège waffle is eaten hot. Its particularity is that it must contain pieces of sugar within a leavened dough. According to legend, it was invented in the 18th Century by the Prince of Liège's cook. At the Prince's request, he experimented with cooking a kind of bun by adding polished sugar to the dough. Seduced by the appetising odour of vanilla that emanated during the cooking, the Prince fell for the new cake's charm. He was not the only one, and the waffle rapidly became very popular in the Liège region and throughout Belgium. Today it is known as the Liège waffle and continues to seduce generations of food-lovers ! Once your sweet tooth is appeased, it's time to get something salty. And if my wife weren't such a fan of the waffles, I'd go straight to the frites (I think that's just a fancy way of saying French fries) every time. Bruges makes them crispy and dry. While I have no doubt that there is little about them that'll improve my health, they aren't oily or greasy, at least not abnormally so. What they are is fantastic, crispy, and delicious. After a super sweet waffle (did you notice that the waffle has pieces of sugar within the dough?), the salty taste of an order of frites is just right, and a step up from your fast-food fries. It's not hard to recommend Bruges for breakfast, but they're open all day, and the waffles make a great desert, too. If you see me checking in on a Saturday morning, be sure to say 'hi.'

My entire life I've hated waffles, pancakes, french toast...basically anything you put maple syrup on. When a co-worker insisted we come to Bruges Waffles and Frites, I was anything but excited. Turns out...it's not waffles that I hate....it's syrup. So hold the syrup and try a waffle here. They are delicious! The vanilla is my favorite, either alone or with the creme freche. Sweet but not nauseatingly so, and great topped with any of the fresh fruit. Frites are awesome, and among the best I've had in town. Top those great fries off with one of the different mayos and you have a perfect lil dining experience. TRY THE ANDOULOUSE! I now stop by everytime I'm in the area.

Just about there, better than not having any belgian waffles, but sadly are compromised. My "That's was a great waffle" definition got messed up for life when I lived in Brussles and Bruges Belgium. The street vendors do make them nearing unbelievable... crisp outside, soft inside, not sugary outside, with a crunchy layer of crystalized sugar inside that breaks when you bite into it. Amazing. A funny thing happened ordering waffles for four of us while in Bruges, the vendor in his broken english said rapidly pointing at each of us, "vaffel, vaffel, vaffel, vaffel." Hysterical... Sorry I digressed... Sadly these waffles in SLC are not correct. They are missing the layer of sugar in the center of the waffle, surrounded by a not-so sweet crust. I heard the real crunchy layer comes from use sugar crystals or some special belgium only made sugar. You can't be using it, or if so you're doing it wrong. I'm no Belgian but if you put this waffle shop in Brussels there would be an intervention by the city council. I know the owners know the difference so I'm calling the owners out on it. Make a REAL Belgian Waffle please, with that crunchy sugar layer inside. You know you can do it, we Salt Lake Bread & Sugar Lovers need this. Otherwise when we all get to heaven (or Bruges) and finally taste the difference, we'll all be so pissed at you for eternity. You get 4 stars now but really I should give 1 star for screwing with a 200 year old recipe, so my 4 star gift is an advance on you fixing this. NOW. My motto... If they don't have real belgian waffles in heaven, then why bother dying.

Bruges is a gem in a sea of overpriced downtown restaurants. This corner hot spot is the place to try delicious fries that are made the right way. Ask anyone there and they will tell you that a secret is hidden in every delicious fry. The variety of dipping sauces is off the hook. Next time I go to In & Out I am skipping the fires and coming straight to Bruges! The waffles are special. These waffles are not your run of the mill IHOP variety. Each one is filled with special sugars to excite the taste buds. Who needs toppings? The sugar caramelizes and creates a carnival of flavors all over the tongue. I am giving this place 5 stars for ambiance, taste, and originality. Keep my table outside open, I will be back soon and often.

I encountered this little shop after two hours of aimless SLC wandering and a heavy dose of hanger (portmanteau for hunger/anger. not steak!). I didn't have a waffle, but had frites, and they were fabulous. The bevy of dipping sauces made me pie-eyed and happy. They didn't serve beer then. Do they now? I hope they do. Definitely a teeny little place. If there are five people eating here, then there's no seating. But you can totally eat frites while standing, so it's fine.

I love two things about this place - 1st - The waffles and fries are outstanding 2nd- I love how the Belgian owner started across the street selling waffles at the weekends and people loved them ..a huge following....he took a chance and opened his own small place, and it's a succe$$ !

  • Eric T.

Probably the best waffles I have ever eaten. I highly recommend the waffles here. I like the more traditional vanilla waffle vs the cinnamon one. They are a sweeter wafle batter, so I didnt miss the syrup, but I I recommend getting the creme fraiche with a whole lot of various fruits. Wish I had been there a few more days. If its a nice day, you should take a waffle across the street to the beautiful park there.

Was it cheap? No. Was there seating? No. Do I care? No. Delicious from the first bite. Cinnamon waffle with creme fraiche and strawberries. Totally awesome. Also got an order of fries with the curry sauce. Sauce was ok, probably should have tried a different one butr thats ok. Still decent. The frites were fantastically crispy. I just wish I could go more often! To add: Those complaining about having to wait for their food. Uh... Did you come for fast food or fresh food?

Thank you for bringing your waffles to the Canyons Resort!!! Truly the best way to end a day of snowboarding. We tried to replicate these when we got home to Philly, and they just couldn't live up to Bruges.

All i can say is yum! The waffles are so rich! Loved the creme fraiche whipped cream topping and the speculoos was fab! The fries were creamy inside and crunchy out. The owner Pierre was a doll too. Must fo again!

This little place is amazing in its simplicity of menu delivering big tastes. The Machine Gun sandwich containing a lamb sausage with frites (fries) on the sandwich and an andalouse sauce was the best meal I have had since I arrived here 3 days ago. I indulged myself with a caramelized Belgian waffle with fresh creme fraise, eggo waffles they are not. You have never had something this good, believe me these are spectacular I will return to this place as often as my visit allows and when I next visit Salt Lake City I will make a beeline to this little restaurant. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Listen to their advise about having the frites belgian style. Excellent.

I can give this place 5 stars based on the fries. Dropped in after some snowshoeing and an order of fries was in my immediate future. I had the aioli mayo and a side of ketchup and they were AMAZING. For some reason, i don't always like the ketchup (LOVE, LOVE ketchup) that is served in Belgium frites establishments..... but the ketchup was delicious and it was good to alternate between the aioli and the ketchup. Looking forward trying the other mayo flavors! I will be returning very soon as I just about fell over when I read that they serve a waffle that has two gooey pieces of dark chocolate melted in the center. More to come.....

  • Linda R.

Creme Fraiche with fresh strawberries on the vanilla waffle is money. The waffle is perfectly cooked. Also had these waffles on the slopes at the Canyons. I'm not a sweets person but the chocolate waffle was soooooooooooo delish! The actual store has little room to seat but there is also some seating outside.

A fun novelty to show guests that SLC has a little bit of foreign flavor. I don't see a lot of value in it though... You have to get the yummy mayo with your fries. I think they charge $.50 or $1.00 for a few ounces. I think the toppings are a little overpriced. Suggestion for ownership -- maybe offer Tabasco and honey as condiments.

I lived in Belgium from 1997-1998, and since then I've tried to find an authentic Belgian waffle in America. No luck....until today!! This place is amazing. The owner is Belgian, knows exactly what he is doing and all the items on their menu can be found in his home country. This place makes me wish I still lived in Utah. I guess I will have to come visit more often!! You can put toppings on the waffles, but, they do NOT need them. I prefer them plain and perfect. Thank you Bruges waffles and frites. You have made me one happy lady...and I'll be back on my next trip to town!

I was somewhat hesitant to try this place because it seemed overhyped by being on TV and whatnot, but we went with some friends and learned that the hype is certainly warranted. We got a machine gun and a waffle monster and they were both delicious. The highlight for me was the special fry sauces they have. The andaloose (sp?) sauce on the gun, and the zensation we had with our fries were both very good. If you are a fan of fry sauce (as I am), to give you a perspective on the sauces, the guy at the counter said "yeah all the sauces are great except for fry sauce."

I was in town for a conference and looking for some food walking distance from my hotel. Bruges popped up on Yelp with good reviews so I headed on over. I had the machine gun and the choco stuffed waffle w/ creme fraiche. Both lived up to the Yelp hype and stuffed my tummy. Hopefully the 2 mile round trip walk was enough to burn off the 1500 calories I'm sure I just ate.

Great waffles, great creme toppings on the waffles, great fries and only an ok spicy sandwich. Defiantly a must try if you haven't been here before but, it is a little pricy for a waffle but worth it.

Someone once told me, "Never, ever try the first one." I think he was talking about drugs or something like that. But that definitely applies. Don't try a waffle here. Or you will want to come back every day. That's going to be kinda rough on your pocketbook. And killer on your hips. I made the mistake of trying my first (Just one time won't hurt! Everybody is doing it!) and it was a doozy. The vanilla waffle, the strawberries, the creme fraiche. Trouble. When you think waffle, don't think regular breakfast waffle. These are dough-based, and when cooked they become the perfect mix between crispy spots of fried sugar on the outside, and a deep, dense middle. There are teeny balls of crispy sugar on the inside that give it an unexpected crunch. With the fresh fruit on top and creme fraiche (seriously sinful and perfectly indulgent) you really have the perfect storm to start an addiction. I love the ambiance here. As in, what ambiance? There's barely any room. It's standing room only (and about 4 square feet of it) on the inside and several tables outside. Go in, order, step out, and wait for your stuff to come out of the window. The highlight list: The fries The waffles with a whole assortment of toppings to choose from The wide variety of housemade aioli The machine gun sandwich, as seen on TV The highlight list is also almost the entirety of the menu. It's simple, and it's done better here than almost anywhere else you could think of. There are a few other things you can get, and some beverages. But once you start on those waffles you'll be in a cold sweat jonesing for your next fix.

This is my first time to visit this place and I'm impressed. The outside is very nice, it's a very small place with like 6 seats inside and the restroom isn't in the exact location (you have to walk a bit and get a key). I ordered the machine gun sandwich was was amazing. It's a couple lamp spicy sausages on a baguette type bread with frites on it with an mustard based based fry sauce which is spicy but wonderful. I don't recall the spelling started with andr-- something. They have several fry sauces to choose from. The waffles are supposed to be great but I didn't have room for that this time so I can't attest to them. The water is self serve and free and other drink are for sale out of their cooler. All in all, AMAzing fries, great good and I will so be going back again!

the service is nice, and the idea is great. I just wish their sausage was not made out of lamb... CAUZ ITS GUCKING FROSS... other than that, i kinda like this place. Love their different mayos and their fries. yum yum yum

Finally stopped into Bruges to try it out! I've never had a Liege Waffle before, so I don't really have something else or another place to compare it to. I got the vanilla waffle which was super delicious! I do have to say that I think it's a bit ridiculous to charge as much as they do extra if you are wanting some creme fraiche and fruit on top of your waffle. Honestly the waffle is just as good on it's own that you could do without the added toppings. I also ordered some frites. They were decent. Not the best fries that I have had and I found them to be pretty salty as well. They mayo that came along with them was pretty good! As far as seating goes, I definitely see how it could be a challenge. There's a wall bar inside that seats maybe 5? Luckily it was a warm day outside so I was able to take advantage of the outdoor seating

Workers are hot and the food is fast and delicious. This place is a Salt Lake icon :) I recommend the lamb sandwich.

Incredible!!!!! Looking for good European food this is the place! Flavor is fantastic. Favorite is the machine gun sandwich. Living in Europe for a while I miss food like this. You need to try it out

Delicious food. Friendly staff. The outdoor dining is perfect when you travel with pets.

The machine gun sandwich is certainly worth trying once. It's tasty, but very heavy. Home made mayo is delightful. Prices are ridiculous. Don't plan on spending less than 15 for a meal. The sausage links in the machine gun are delicious, but for a 10 dollar sandwich, very small...the sandwich is mostly fries. Friendly staff, fun location.

Great waffles. Whether for dessert or for your breakfast/lunch/dinner this place is great. It is going to be hard to not find something you absolutely love here. Be willing to spend around $7 for a big portioned waffle and you'll enjoy every last bite.

Great food. We had a club and an italian sandwich ,with a large portion offries, with a choice if the spicy majo. The waffles are crispy, as were the fried. The meal worked well togther. And they did show the soccer worldcup game on TV ad an added bonus.

Came to Utah for the Thanksgiving break to visit some family in Sandy and reserved a day to check out the best of SLC food... and Bruges popped up on Yelp as a must-try! We went for "breakfast" but once there, realized it didn't make sense to get a waffle and the Machine Gun so we opted for the Machine Gun, given it was what they're "most" known for (or have been most publicized about). It's a TINY little spot with literally only 6 stools and some standing room, but worked for us since it was nice out and there were plenty of tables and chairs there. There is a LOT of parking (is this even a concern in SLC? is this the LA in me talking?) across the street, but we walked from the Gallavan Plaza TRAX stop and it wasn't bad at all. Service was kind and quick -- they have a little takeout window in front where they can call you if you wait outside, or if you hover inside they'll find you there. The Machine Gun was basically frites and lamb merguez sausages covered in a REALLY GOOD Andalouse sauce (mayo + things) between two baguettes. I didn't eat any of the sausage but the hubs said it was good. I mostly munched on fries/frites (they were okay) and ate the baguette with sauce----which was good. I;m not a huge fan of mayo-based sauces but this one was REALLY yummy. If we had gone on a weekend, would have totally gone for a Belgian Chocolate + Coffee (I forget what they called it) -- but it was too early in the day and I don't think they serve it unless it's a weekend. They also have a lot of drinks in a case-I think I saw FUZE drinks and Vitamin Waters, if it floats your boat. Would definitely go back to try a waffle and the Chocolate+Coffee--while the Machine Gun was good, I feel like it's more of those things you want to try but probably won't repeat.

I was brought by a friend who is very health and calorie conscious so I knew that it had to be good. A vanilla liege waffle with strawberries and creme fraiche... Seriously, amazing. So fattening, but so worth if. This is one of the places that makes SLC great to me; unique and delicious.

The BF, his mom, and I went here on our first night in SLC. Let me start by saying the food was excellent! Unfortunately, the people who worked there were not so excellent. The guy at the register had a 'I'm way too cool for this' attitude. I asked him what aioli he recommended and he said 'Well, the descriptions are on the wall so you can just read them.' Well....I know that, but I haven't TASTED them and thought maybe, seeing as he works there, he would have some insight. Anyway, at least the food was good. The frites were crispy and delicious, the samurai sauce (which I picked out on my own) was spicy, and the waffle with the strawberries, ice cream, and speculoos was tasty. I would go back, but I would recommend the owners think about who they have representing their business. PS 500 reviews! Woot!

I have been waiting to come back here since my visit a year ago! This place is amazing- the frites with dipping sauce- perfect! The waffles----- WOW!!! Yum yum yum! Must get the creme fraiche! These are the most perfect belgian waffles EVER!

  • Alyssa T.

DELICIOUS waffles! They somehow taste like a mix between a sugar cookie and a waffle, and they are to die for. Go to Tony Caputos next door for a sandwich and then to Bruges for dessert -- foodie heaven!

  • Kris I.

The frites are just okay. I wasn't very impressed. They were bland and... well, not super amazingly delicious. The waffles, though. I just....crap... I should never have gone to this place. Because those waffles. I would marry those waffles. I'm going to start a Facebook page to petition for Waffle-and-Human marriage. Please come to my rally to raise support for me so I can marry my true love. I can see the ceremony now: "Vanilla Liege Waffle, do you take Kris to be your lawfully wedded nom-er for as long as you... um, Kris, you just ate your waffliancee...no!!! Not the family! DON'T EAT LITTLE COUSIN LIEGE! NOOOO!! THE HORROR! THE HORROR!" Don't get the creme fraiche. It's all for me.

Having traveled to Belgium on numerous occasions, I always indulge in a waffle, especially a Liege waffle. Wanting some dessert after a long drive, I found this place and I'm glad it did. Little cut of a shop with just enough space to prepare the food and serve it. Don't worry, they're efficient. I ordered the cinnamon Liege waffle with creme fraiche and bananas. It was bliss in a basket. The Liege is a huge portion and it's crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside-a great sign that they made it right. When the weather is right, you can park yourself and your waffle right on the sidewalk cafe or the upstairs patio. I didn't try the frites (reducing carb intake), so I picked the lesser of two evils. :-) I highly recommend this place.

A stop at Bruge Waffles & Frites was the last thing I did on my recent trip to Salt Lake City. Definitely the culinary highlight of my trip! Its a simple menu, with really only 4 items on the menu. In this case less is sooo much more. The Machine Gun - What better place to start. Images of the machine gun on yelp helped me decide to eat hear. I was a bit skeptical about all the fries stuffed in, but once I took a bite into the nice crunchy roll, with the perfectly flavored lamb sausage, and the andalouse sauce, I was sold on this place. Fries were perfectly crispy and added a nice flaver to the sandwich. The Fries - Perfectly crispy and served with your choice of Aioli sauce. Although we had fried in the sandwiches, it never hurt to have more. Especially when the sauces were so good, had the Samurai...don't worry, it wasn't super spicy. The Belgian Waffles - Sugar pearls ingrained into the yesast dough...Deliciousness topped with fruit, creme fresch, and a spread of ground up cookies that tasted like Nutella but 10x better! This spread was straight from Belgium! The Flemish Stew - Beer stew tastiness. Nice deep flavor served on a bed of fries! Only served from Nov-Apr. Pierre Vandamme is an awesome guy that knows the history of the food he serves, and he serves it well and proudly! He says he wants to start an operation out here in SF...I think SF is ready for him!

Love Bruges. Would have been five stars but since they have ownership things aren't quite as good as they used to be. Still a yummy treat though! I recommend the machine gun sandwich and the vanilla waffle w creme fraise, dark chocolate, and strawberries. :)

Picture this: your plane touches down in Salt Lake City, and your crew decides to explore the city [SLC is the cleanest, kindest city in America, if you ask me] for a few hours before heading into Park City. They turn to you, the Yelpster of the group, for an affordable, tasty lunch suggestion. Enter Yelp App - always a godsend. We decide on Bruges Waffles & Frites, since my lady friend LIVES for brunch. Literally, she lives for it. When a place has essentially three items on the menu - waffles, the Machine Gun Sandwich, and made-from-scratch french fries, you get the sense it's going to be an awesome meal. Yup, 'twas a magnificent meal. Turns out, we were about to eat the finest waffles in all the Land. I'm telling you, these waffles are a delicacy. No need for syrup -- their Creme fraiche, crunchy speculoos spread, and Belgian chocolate sauce are borderline sinful. Gosh, I'm craving it now from 1,300 miles away in Minneapolis... The fries have been voted Best of Utah for the past 2 years, and for good reason. And the Machine Gun Sandwich tasted like it was straight from the MN State Fair - fries piled right on top of the sandwich, which was loaded with lamb meat. ZOMG. Time for a few more visits to SLC...

Great hole in the wall place. Gets very cramped because of the limited seating area but it is delicious. Love getting just their cinnamon waffle. Fries are good as well. Have a plethora of dipping sauces for them as well.

Greasey fries anyone? You get a lot, but the small yummy dipping sauces just don't make sense for the amount.

  • Mat A.

First of all, my rating is based solely on price. For the amount of food you get, the price is a little high. I should have ordered the Machine Gun Sandwich, that may have been a better value than the Flemish Stew. The waffles are super sweet, and I highly recommend the strawberries and cream. The fries were tasty, and the mayo dipping sauces are a-plenty. If we come again, it will be for the waffles...gotta love those waffles. The staff was awesome too! Funny, casual and very helpful.

This place NEVER disappoints! It's always so good and so fresh. If you want a quick snack with a great view of the local park, stop by here. You can eat above the little hole in the wall shop and enjoy whatever you choose, no matter what. The staff is super friendly and they have a crap ton of sauces to choose from for the frites. If you are in the mood for great food, go here!

Waffle Heaven for sure! I am terribly picky when it comes to waffles. I love them so much and so many places really just destroy them. Bruges, hands down, best waffles I have ever had. And it wasn't just because the Torpedo waffle has real Belgium chocolate in the middle. (Although that was a delicious touch) I really liked having a variety of topping for my waffles. Made my breakfast seem uniquely me. We also got the Machine gun sandwich. To quote many other reviews yes this is the one from man vs. food. It was a bit difficult to pick up at first so we just ate some of the frites from on top. This gave us a minute to try the sauce which was delicious. The first few bites of the sandwich were a unique taste experience since I've never had a lamb sausage before. A welcomed difference to normal sausage. You can bet I will eat there again and again.

This is a must! Visited this place while on visit at Salt Lake City with the family. We were all speechless! Friendly staff, one of a kind waffles, fries and sausage sandwiches, it's got it all! Try it, you will NOT be sorry!

I just got one of their new waffle sandwiches and they are really yummy, with fresh avocados and turkey. They have really good frites (fries) and tons of sauces you can buy to go with it. My all time fav is after burner. Too good!

Machine Gun Sandwich was excellent, bold flavor, but not overwhelming. Fries and sauces were also memorable. Wife and kids had the Waffle Monster, we highly recommend it. Seating is outside, very pleasant and calm, however. We will be back.

Their waffles were really good. We had a cinnamon one with strawberries and chocolate. It was kinda expensive but really good. My husband had the machine gun sandwich but we didn't really like it. It wasn't all that great. Get the waffles skip the other stuff.

The best waffles we've had in a long time. So glad we found this in the city guide. I had vanilla Liege waffle with ice cream, and hubby had cinnamon with craime freche which is exceptional. The waffles are made as if the have caramel crust. The fires are very good. The andalusian mayo is spicy and has a kick and goes really well with the fires. Will want to come again if we come to SLC again.

    (5)
  • Brian B.

Their waffle monster is incredibly good. Their frites are good enough to go there just for those. A little pricey for a waffle, but after trying to make these at home, I can see why it's expensive!

FINALLY I got to try Bruges. (It seems like the Waffle gods have always interrupted my quest, with them either being closed, or extremely busy, or on the wrong side of town for my pressed pastry desires.) The waffles are as good as people say, with specks of hardened sugar interplaying with the vanilla and starchy flavors. I got mine with banana and drizzled dark chocolate, and it's everything you could imagine. The Belgian owner is a delight, and if you look you can find Tin-Tin books hiding in the corner. I will definitely be back, to try the Torpedo sandwich and many other waffle variations.

  • Lisa R.

Charming, quaint location across from park...check Friendly, outgoing Belgian owner...check Homemade creme fraiche and kiwi on vanilla liege waffle...pricelesssssss WOW. You can get cinnamon or vanilla waffle, choice of fruit and chocolate toppings, and sooo good creme fraiche. I also got a small frites (comes with mayo of choice - I had the "spicy " one) - Free water in the corner. What amazed me is that EVERY PATRON WAS MALE!!!! the whole time I was there! As a French-woman's daughter, I enjoyed this very much. The guys were enjoying some manly sandwich called the machine gun...yikes haha. Wish it was in VEGAS! good thing I just bought a wafflemaker at Target.

This is a fantastic little restaurant, definitely worth anyone's time while in SLC. The waffles are second to none, and the Flemish stew over fries is amazing. The only drawback is the limited seating (one bar with room for six to eight inside, two patio tables that seat four each outside), however the staff is always friendly and the food is fantastic. Great place for a meal or even just a late-night waffle binge. If you thought you had eaten the best waffles in your entire life, give this place a shot; you won't be disappointed. Only four stars because it's too small for the amount of business they go through.

    (4)
  • Chris S.

I want to add my voice to the others! 5+++++ stars! I love this place! I mostly visit during the warmer months that I can eat outside. The owner is super nice and is never too busy to make small talk. I love the Machine Gun Sandwhich! I have never had anything like it anywhere else. If you are not convinced that this will be your best choice by the many great ratings, then you may have bigger problems to deal with my friend :)

Absolutely great experience here. The owner greeted us right as we walked in and asked if we had been before. We said no and he spent 5 minutes tall no us about the menu and all the little intricacies of what they serve. Such a nice man. Then there's the food. Wow... Wow... Wow... Such a yummy treat! There are unique and traditional flavors. Something for everyone. Check this place out!

Sweet lord, what did I do to myself going here? I was ruined for the rest of the day after I visited this sinful little shack, after having only one waffle! My husband and I wanted to venture from our safe breakfast nook at the Park Cafe and try something new, and decided on Bruges. I felt silly that I had never really paid attention to this place, as I frequent their neighboring business, Caputos. We ordered a vanilla waffle with creme fraiche and banana, and my husband got the "Torpedo" waffle which is a waffle with two bars of dark Belgium chocolate sandwiched in the middle. An order of frites to just say we tried them were added to our breakfast as well. We realized looking at the menu that we were in for a rich, sugar rush filled breakfast, and Bruges didn't disappoint. We arrived to a busy line out the door situation, so we wandered around Caputos and drooled over fresh Tartufo (truffles) dreaming of a time we could spend the $3,200/lb for a pasta truffle dish. After our daydreaming of frivolous spending, we headed back to the tiny building and luckily the inside crowd had disappeared and we were able to get a seat. The waffles were crisp, carmalized, fluffy on the inside, absolutely the most amazing waffle I've ever had hands down. I was honestly overwhelmed at the amount of creme fraiche and moved most of it to the side and happily dipped my banana in a small amount with my waffle. I decided that I would be entirely content with a plain old waffle from here and feel good about it. The frites were good, we ordered a small, and I felt like nearly 4 bucks for the portion was a little much, and they weren't very consistently crispy. Half were very crisp and good, the other half were a little soggy. I went plane Jane and got fry sauce with them, but I was intrigued by all the sauces available, and kinda want to go back just to try them. I was way too full and on sugar overload to even attempt to try a bite of my husbands waffle, but he loved his as well. He was more put off at the super tiny seating area than I was, but I was thankful we didn't have to resort to sitting outside in the chilly weather. Will I go back? Probably. Will I feel like I have to run on a treadmill for hours afterward? Yes.

I lived in and around Liege Belgium for about a year and there was not a single time I didn't stop at the train station and get a real Belgian Waffle when in the area! This is straight up legit a carbon copy of the real deal right here in SLC! Every time I come here now I just want my plain treat without any extras the way I remember them from Belgium so I can't comment on the frites yet, but will soon. I also lived in Mouscron Belgium (the birthplace of frites supposedly) for a few months and grew to LOVE the authentic frites there. So I will have my opinion coming up on them...

  • Eli G.

I give you the best waffle I've ever had; yelp.com/biz_photos/kGmm… Forget all the strawberries and the ice cream stuffed inside. This fresh made concoction was pure bliss. The sugar pearls they cook in the batter made delightful bits of caramelized sweetness throughout and the magic speculoos spread was so good that I had to get my own jar from Amazon. The waffles is only half the reason we came. Through the awesome TV Food Maps application, we found this place because it was on Man Vs. Food, featuring their machine gun sandwich. Sadly the name was beastlier than the sandwich. yelp.com/biz_photos/kGmm… While the sandwich was good, it was really just good bread, a couple very small lamb sausages, topped with their okay fries and some sauce. It was a good eat, but I wished the sausages were twice as big, and that they'd try to pack a few more fries on top. But overall a great spot, one that I will be going back to soon!

    (4)
  • John W.

Great fries, the sausage sandwich is also worth a try. Keep in mind there is no much space so be ready to eat in the car but over all it's well worth the trip. Much better than fast food.

My favorite place eatery at Salt Lake City, disclosure: I have a sweet tooth. Ordered Liege Waffle (with Crunchy speculoos spread and Vanilla bean ice cream) Freshest waffle I ever had, great vanilla ice cream. Wasn't a fan of the speculoos, I wouldn't order that the next time. Tip: They have additional seating upstairs!

  • Courtney R.

I too came here because of the recommended Machine Gun Sandwich. I wanted to like it, but alas, did not. It's a HUGE sandwich to start off. The bread roll is enormous. They could have done much better with something thinner. The sausage is awful. AWFUL. It looks and tastes disgusting. On a good note, the fries are pretty good. A bit greasy but flavourful. The sauce they put on top of the fries (like a mayo/aioli) is EXCELLENT. Has a nice kick to it. But that's it. $10 for a sandwich where the only good thing is the fry sauce. Not worth it.

I ate here based on the recommendations on Yelp and Google and it was close to my hotel but I have to admit I was sorely disappointed. In general the atmosphere was nice; it was a cute "hole in the wall" kind if interior with outside seating along the street (with a nice park across the street), but unfortunately the second I walked in the door I was overwhelmed with the smell of old/burned oil. Honestly I almost walked out but decided to just get my food to go (it was a little chilly to eat outside). The staff was somewhat friendly but did not go out of their way to engage me (I was the only person inside at the time) and 1 of the 3 guys working was cleaning equipment less than 12 inches from where my food was being prepared. It was also expensive and I was not at all impressed by the food. I ordered the Freak'N Dog, the Torpedo waffle (which Creme fraiche and strawberries), 1 extra sauce and a can of soda and it was $22. I got a very generous serving of the Creme and strawberries (by far the best part of the entire meal!). The Creme fraiche is just whipped cream, not true Creme fraiche, but very good. The sauces were really good but nothing I couldn't make at home with a jar of Real Foods and some items from my pantry. The Freak'N dog was just not good (except for the sauces), the sausage was bland and there was WAY too much bread for the size of the sausage (every 2 out 3 bites was just bread and sauce). The fries tasted good but were WAY too salty. The sugary coating on the waffle was really tasty but otherwise the waffle was really dense and tasted floury & bland and the chocolate in the waffle tasted like poor quality Belgian chocolate. I'm not sure if I caught these guys on an off night because most of their reviews are good but I definatley won't be going back there or recommending it to anyone.

The Machine Gun sandwich was absolutely delicious. The french fries, sauce, and lamb are a great combination. The vanilla waffle with chocolate sauce and creme fraiche was also really yummy but just slightly too sweet. This is a really cute little place.

So very very tasty, a must have when in slc. Sadly tho I've had them every week as they are brought to a weekly meeting at work... So getting a bit burnt out on waffles and frites.

  • Nancy R.

I want to go back to Salt Lake City for another one of Bruges waffles! Bruges waffles are probably the best waffles that I have tasted. I had the vanilla flavored waffles with raspberries on top. My bf had the vanilla flavored waffles with melted chocolate and strawberries and both were DELICIOUS! The waffles are not that big and it can get pricey because you pay for each ingredient (whipping cream, strawberries, raspberries, etc)...but the flavor that comes out of that waffle is worth it! They also have a drink that is half hot chocolate/half coffee that says it is only served on weekends. However, they were able to make it during the week for us. This drink was the cherry on top to a perfect breakfast experience in SLC!

  • Kelie H.

Bruges doesn't need another review, but I can't stop myself from adding my two cents. You can't even think about calories if you're going to eat here because everything is super rich and extremely calorie-laden...but it tastes sooooo gooood. I had fries and curry ketchup and a vanilla waffle with strawberries. I wanted to keep it simple for my first try. I took one bite and almost passed out from extreme euphoria. The flavors of everything took me back to my few years spent in Europe, where we'd buy paper cones of fries with mayo from street vendors, and curry infused ketchup was the norm just about everywhere. Sigh..the only downside is my waistline can;t afford to come here often, but if I could, I would.

The best place to eat in Utah without question. Utah has many good places to eat but you can find most of that food anywhere. Bruges offers something that cannot be duplicated. The vanilla waffle with a little cream and chocolate is unreal. The twice fried fries with 10+ fry sauce options won't disappoint. Not a better way to blend salty and sweet.

    (5)
  • Rod S.

If you find yourself in Bruges after eating here you'll end up being disappointed in the waffles and frites there. The waffles here are better than the best I've had in multiple trips to Bruges. The only problem with this place is it's so popular it can be difficult to get a place to sit and it's a bit of a zoo inside getting the food. The place is a real gem. So, when in Bruges, stick to the moules (mussels), white asparagus in season and the beer for comfort food. The frites and waffles here are better.

    (5)
  • Chris H.

I thought mom made awesome waffles but holy moly what great food!!! Can't miss eating here if you're in the area (or not in the area), must have frites!!!

  • Lara S.

Hmm. My three rather than four stars are probably in reaction to the excessive hype. I had the Machine Gun, which was unique, but I would have been way happier with my sandwich had I split it with a friend. I'm tiny, but I can pack it away and this got painful at the halfway mark. The savory mayo was super rich, fries were greasy, and the lamb sausage was heavy. Yet to try the waffles.

The Biscoffi Spread and bananas will change your life. Don't be daunted by the tiny shop. Don't be turned off my the outdoor seating. And do NOT leave without a cone full of FRITES w/ andalouse mayo. I can die happy now.

Located in a newly-revitalized neighborhood (or is it still mid-revitalization?) Delightful waffles with countless options for toppings. The sweet ones make the kids stoked, but they aren't ridiculously sweet. They have flavor beyond the sweetness, which is rare nowadays in similar spots (such as creperies). There is real care that goes into the ingredients & preparation, which shows through in the finished product. And the frites are outrageously good. And OMG they have artwork of the almighty Eddy Merckx and the King of Belgium. Heaven! A small spot with very little elbow room inside. They have tables outside, and Pioneer Square across the street (home of Occupy SLC) is perhaps a bit sketchy, but definitely safe-ish with a great playground for the kids to burn off the sugar. A great spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Someday I'll man up and do a Machine Gun Sandwich!

The great thing about this place is the fact that you don't have to go to Bruges to get these great waffles and frites (which, quite frankly, is a bonus). Hubby and I shared a Machine Gun and a waffle and strawberries. I'd go back just to try all the other sauces for the frites!! You can keep the lamb sausages... as mentioned in another review, they seemed overcooked. Must try the choc-filled waffle next time!

I am a FRY FREAK. I proudly let my fry freak flag fly. I finally was able to make it down to Bruges to try their much talked about, award-winning frite. Made to order, my frites were cooked to a perfect golden brown. A medium could easily feed 4 people. I had mine with with Zango Mayo (flavor with lime zest and mango.) Excellent sauce. The frites however, were overwhelmingly, unbearably salty! So salty that they ruined all hopes I had for my evening snack. The ankle biters couldn't eat them either. I don't know if it was due to human error or if that's how salty they are supposed to be, but I'm surely not going to spend another $5+ to find out. Totally turned off, the redeeming part of my experience was the Torpedo waffle, a crispy vanilla Belgian waffle stuffed with dark Belgian chocolate. You can choose a variety of fresh toppings, the most popular being creme fraiche. Great taste, but kinda pricey.

Great tiny place, the waffles are SOOO good, I just had plain cinnamon and it was great just by itself, I am sure they are just amazing with toppings! I did find the prices a bit high, waffle is $3.50 and it is between $1-2 extra for each topping so you end up spending $5-7 on just a waffle.. Little high for me, but they are worth it! Yum! The fries were good, nothing spectacular but when you combine them with all of their unique mayo concoctions they are great! This place is tiny, but the crowd of people outside shows how good it is!

I love Bruges! I live in Sugarhouse and mostly go to the new location down here but starting going at this location. The owner and founder of the place is from Belgium. While for a waffle is is a little pricey, I give it a 5 stars because of the experience. You'll never try anything like it! The waffle Monster is the BEST! Speculous is my favorite addition to that waffle. Then the machine gun is the way to go for sandwiches. You have to eat most of the fries out of it before actually scarfing it the rest of the way down. The lamb sausage is strong enough to compliment the delicious baguett. Mmmmm- I get a side of samauri sauce. YUM!

I had a Vanilla waffle with Blueberries and creme fraiche. I was trying to choose between creme fraiche and ice cream to top my waffle and the lady at the counter told me they make the creme fraiche in house so she would recommend that. This being said the creme fraiche was good but nothing that great I have had better at other places in seattle. But I did enjoy the waffle itself, despite the fact the toppings were nothing that special. It was crispy and sweet and delicious. I think it would be better with strawberries or bananas. If I found myself in the area again I might try it with the ice cream instead. It is a bit pricy but I think it is worth it for a treat every once in a while. My friend got frites and some sauce. The dipping sauce and the frites were pretty good also if your not in the mood for something super sweet. we ate outside and is was sunny and beautiful and this added to the experience.

Wow. And delicious! I'll never believe I'm eating a Belgium waffle again unless I get it from somewhere in Belgium or from Bruges. Meaning, the IHOP's and the other like restaurants of the world will claim to serve a Belgium waffle but oh how they lie. They may serve a pancake shaped like a waffle, but it ain't nothin' Belgian. I almost felt like I was eating a cookie. It was sweet and needed no dressings. When my friend ordered it "hand-held" I thought she was nuts because the waffles I was used to didn't taste great unless smothered in whip cream, strawberries and syrup. But these waffles stand alone. I can still taste them and I crave them! I highly recommend. Either plain or with the cream. Yum!

Tried the chocolate waffle (awesome).. these are true Belgian waffles with little spherical nougats of sweetness scattered around in the batter. The owner is definitely from Europe, I think he may actually be Belgian. The torpedo sandwich is enormous, good spicy merguez sausage, but the quantity of fries added is a bit obscene and way more carbs than I wanted or needed. but an original item for sure.. pleasant location across the street from a park, so one can go eat there. there are a few tables out front and a tiny bit of seating inside but seating is quite limited, if full go eat in the park..

The frites were a bit greasy, but it was a fun place to try out as it's so different. I didn't find that the flavor was all that great, but the portions were huge. I definitely wanted to like this place because it was a funky little place with a unique position in downtown Salt Lake. A perfect place, actually, for those summer nights after the concerts in Pioneer Park. This place is hopping with hipsters, so expect a wait for your food. Definitely worth a try once, but I probably wouldn't be super stoked on heading back unless I'm craving something intensely heavy.

I popped in for a quick bite after I landed at Salt Lake Int'l Airport. The machine gun sandwhich was AMAZING, the service was incredibly fast and friendly, and parking/locating Bruges was a breeze! I hope to drop by again on my way back to the airport to try the waffles.

Wow! Amazing food! Best dessert idea ever. The staff is super friendly and offer great suggestions. Only downside is there's no place to sit down on a busy night which means you have to be outside. If the weather is nice, not a problem.

The best Belgian waffle you will ever eat in Utah, period. The taste of the foods here are like an awakening of your tastebuds. They stick to waffles, frites, and a well-known something known as the "Machine Gun." You will not be disappointed with anything you get. Bruges is a dainty place but they have a patio above and some tables outside so there are some seats to grab if you are quick. But if you can't catch a table you can walk down to Pioneer park right next across to enjoy your treats. I love Bruges' food and I yearn to get more of their food. A little pricy but worth it all. Oh, what have they done to me and my tastebuds...other waffles and frites will never taste the same again. Recommendation(s): Cinnamon Belgian waffle with crème fraiche. Note(s): A wise friend of mine told me never to get syrup with your Belgian waffle here. A very wise friend indeed.

It may be small but Bruges Waffles & Fries has big tastes. Now I'm now a fan of waffles. Never was growing up. Then when my wife convinced me to try their waffles, I was hooked. Sweet, crispy and decadent and the creme is tasty too. Top it off with some fresh strawberries and you'll make a convert out of a non-believer. The Frites (aka fries but don't let them catch you calling them that in the store) are everything they should be. Hot, crispy and crunchy and the homemade aioli sauce comes in a variety of flavors. My favorite are the garlic and the greens aioli. Now there is more to the menu than just the waffles and frites. If you're a little more adventurous, I suggest the Machine Gun Sandwich. A spicy lamb sausage place in a baguette, covered with frites and smothered in a spicy aioli sauce. It'll clear your sinuses and your hunger. For a guy who wasn't a fan of waffles or spicy food, I can say that Bruges is at the top of my list of favorite restuarants.

Good God. Eating here has shown me the light. It's an epiphany. A miracle. I was blind and now I see... my taste buds have never experienced such joy. My love of all other foods seems insignificant now. I've found a new infatuation that blurs my food relationships of the past. Bruges is complete and udder euphoria. I'm not sure that it matters what you order here. I would bet my entire life savings (very tempting, I know) that everything on their menu tastes just as glorious as what I ordered. Bruges can do no wrong in my eyes. I will now attempt to encompass their magnificence in a detailed list: (This list gets stars instead of numbers because all of these points are equally exceptional.) * Waffles: vanilla liege waffle with creme fraiche and fresh strawberries. After trying the Bruges waffle, you will never go back. Normal waffles now seem silly and pointless. This magical waffle is caramelized on the outside for a candy crunch and perfectly light and flaky on the inside. At first I was wondering where my side of syrup was, but luckily I dove in without it. Syrup is for the weak. A Bruges waffle needs nothing (but oh yes, it still comes with creme made from the clouds of heaven and fresh fruit that never tasted so good.) * Frites: didn't really know what a "frite" was until my order arrived. It is a French Fry for all of you other clueless people! Even though my side of fries was a surprise, it was the best decision I could have made. You know how you usually order fries and have to pick through the soggy floppy ones to find the crunchy juicy ones? Well these fries are only crunchy and juicy! And the fry sauce (or mayonnaise as they call it) is thick and full of flavor. * Machine Gun: I can't comment too much on this masterpiece, as I didn't order it myself. I did, however, watch my two guy friends chow down on this monster of a sandwich as I giggled in amusement. Let's just say it's not the most romantic thing to eat. This sandwich is filled with lamb sausage links, frites, and their special mayonnaise. It's bigger than some newborn babies. Basically, it's every guys dream... and yes, it's guy approved. They absolutely loved it. * Overall setting: this place is so small, there is barely room for a condiment counter and a cash register. I saw a tiny bar area with bar stools but trust me, this is not necessary. Part of what makes this experience so enchanted is eating outside on a warm day, surrounded by a beautiful area of downtown and soaking in the sunshine. Have I successfully accomplished the longest and most descriptive Yelp review of my time? Yes, I think I have. Bruges has turned me into a needy lover. I am ready to take our relationship to the next level (upon observing the surrounding area, I noticed the Palladio apartments are a mere two blocks away from Bruges. I shall be counting the days until my current lease is up...) Update: I am currently living in the Palladio apartments. Success is mine!

Visiting SLC from out of state...searching for a unique food experience. I found this place and Yelp, dragged my 10 family members here for Waffles and Fries--and a new tradition is born. This place is sooo good. We must have ordered one of everything and it was all delicious. It is a very small place. We learned they have another location in Sugarhouse for larger groups. Their fries have won City Awards for the last three years. Worth it. And amazing sauce selection. Just go there already---eat waffles and fries.

After a 6 hour car ride from Tahoe to Salt Lake with two boys who opted for McDonald's that morning (leaving me food-less.. due to having some kind of standards) I insisted that we go for liege waffles when we arrived. The waffles themselves were a bit dense compared to others liege waffles I'd had, but overall the quality was good, and that's not the part that makes them special anyway. You can top your already-sweet-and-crispy waffle with bananas, ice cream, berries, speculoos, etc. or fill them with two bars of Belgian chocolate. Personally I wouldn't come here again, but the boys enjoyed their waffles and frites (super crispy fries with aoli) so much that I realized a) yes the food is good, I just have other leige waffles to compare this place to and b) I can't penalize Bruges for being unhealthy, and perhaps if I'd had the boys attitude, I'd be back for more.

Although I hadn't caught the episode of "Man vs Food" that featured this restaurant I decided to give it a try as he does seem to go to pretty cool places.. I had the "machine gun" which was both delicious in the parts and the sum of it's parts. Meaning each item alone I liked and together.... that is just tasty. The fries on top were AWESOME, the sauce was good and had a little bit of a kick to it. The bread was also delicious. The sausage was the only thing I was a little surprised about, I am not familiar with this type of lamb sausage but I expected it to be a bit larger in diameter. It was also kind of a dry style which I didn't expect either. Good flavor and worked well in the sandwich. This is a worthwhile sandwich to try as it is not your typical combination, but do watch yourself as it is NOT a healthy sandwich.

Small place, big flavor - come hungry, and walk off your meal at the park outside. For anyone that's been to Belgium, the fries here will not disappoint. The Machine Gun is probably better than the average celebrity-endorsed sandwich, and the employees really know what they're talking about. My only regret is that I didn't have any room left for dessert.

The waffles here are the ultimate indulgence. Since I had my first, I crave them. I'm fond of the vanilla waffle with speculoos and strawberries. The frites and dipping sauces are also awesome. The food is rich and heavy but oh so worth it.

The reviews speak for themselves. This place is delicious. I'm only giving it 4 starts because it is a bit pricey for the amount of food you get. If you're willing to spend the money, it's really tasty.

This is the real deal for belgium waffle! The Machine Gun sandwich was good. But, even though some 'foodie' gave this sandwich a 'rave' review I'd go back for the waffles. I mean look at the name of the place. Great place during the summer & fall when you can take your goods across the street to the park (since seating is extremely limited!). Good stuff!!

Amazing cinnamon waffles! The Belgium owner was very sweet and helped us order. We tried the stew with fries (he said it was his moms recipe-it was delicious) and a cinnamon waffle with fresh cream and mixed berries. So delicious, seriously.

Great Belgian waffles with standard fries. $9 Waffle monster with ice cream in middle is heaven. $9 Machine gun sandwich (Lamb) was ok, I prefer the waffles. A bit pricey and the wait can be long. Large patio on second floor.

I've only had the Machine Gun Sandwich and it was flipping amazing, but a ton of food. I could only eat half of it and then I was good for the rest of the day. It was very unique to anything else I've ever eaten and I'll definitely get it again, but I'll bring a friend. I really want to go back and try the Liege waffles at some point, they look amazing. The Freakanel looks pretty interesting, too. Having never been to Belgium I have no idea how authentic any of this stuff is, but I don't care it tastes good. The staff is super friendly and seem to work efficiently in a very limited space. I do wish the place was bigger, but at least outdoor seating is available. I haven't been to the Sugarhouse location yet, perhaps it's roomier. I heard rumors of seating in an upper patio area as well, but I didn't take the time to go check it out. It's in a great location and starting the day with waffles and then roaming around downtown sounds like a good time to me.

+1 to the other reviews. Err, I guess +5... I don't feel like I can add much to the Yelpers ahead of me on this one. Loved this place. The patio's great for taking your kids up to dine. They loved the frites and waffles for lunch. I loved everything. It w

If Bruges Waffles & Frites were in Chicago there would be a line around the block. Bruges doesn't serve many items. Usually there are only three: Waffles, frites, and a seasonal offering. By not trying to do too much, perfection becomes achievable. The waffles are heavy and sweet (vanilla or cinnamon); made from dough rather than batter. They arrive dense and steamy, tasty on their own but even better with a topping. I recommend crème fraiche to cut the sweetness, but can't resist tasting some chocolate if someone else orders it. Pierre wanted to import potatoes from Belgium but when that proved impractical, he chose the next best thing: Idaho spuds. The frites are skinny cut and twice-fried in the authentic Belgian method. Ketchup is free plus one of the many gourmet sauces. (My favorite is garlic aioli even though Pierre considers that one rather "common.") In winter you can get a stew made with Guinness poured over frites. (This is possibly the closest thing to Canadian poutine that we can get in Salt Lake City.) I recommend it.

  • Grason R.

So glad to see this place doing well. The owner is a really nice guy and does everything to make you happy. I've been to belgium and these are exactly what you get there. Don't let the size fool you... they are dense. Fries are the best!

Until this afternoon I was sure that were I to do something that put me on death row my last meal would be sushi and chocolate chip cookies. Today I met Bruges Waffles and now know that I would have ... all of them! Oh child, please! So good. We had a bit of everything. A Machine Gun sandwich, a waffle with chocolate INSIDE, and of course frites. There was not a bad item I put in my mouth. The place is small, very little seating inside, and in the winter is a little cold to eat outside. However, everything traveled well and was still warm when we got back to the office. The owner was working and was friendly; the staff was helpful guiding us through what we were looking at to order and made suggestions. Have I mentioned they can put the chocolate inside the waffle? INSIDE!

While I am a huge fan of this place, I'm writing this review for my wife. She absolutely loves this spot for breakfast. They have the best Belgium waffles. Fresh fruit, crème fraîche, Belgium chocolates- What more could one ask for! The fries they have are also quite good with a great variety of sauces to try. I will also give a shout out to the extremely friendly staff, always willing to explain the menu to a new customer even if they probably do it every 2 minutes! Try this place - you won't be disappointed. PS- Their is also one up on the slopes at The Canyons so if you can't make it down into Salt Lake but are visiting to ski, check out the ski up option!

I expected more after all the hype and reviews.. I understand the waffle has sugar cooked into it, so they don't have syrup.. Sorry, but for my palate it's still too dry to eat alone, and for a single waffle at that price and to have to add $2 for each topping, I wasn't in the mood to doctor it up into a $15 waffle. The fries were tasty, light and crispy but I musta had the bottom of the barrel, because all it was was greasy little crumbfries. Jeez, I usually love every place, maybe I should give them another chance one day.. Maybe not. There's more new places for me to worry about. Sorry to be a negative Nancy!

Solid on both fronts: the fresh double-fried frites served in a paper cone with a variety of delicious sauces (the Andalouse standing out) and the rich, flavorful Liège waffles (best with a fresh fruit topping).

It doesn't get better than this. Combine the warm and friendly personality of the proprietor, Pierre VanDamme, with absolutely authentic and delicious gauffres (waffles) and you have the makings of an ideal outing. I love the cinnamon Liege style waffle so much I haven't been able to bring myself to try the frites, which look amazing. Please disregard the low rating by reviewer Hannah...you won't regret or soon forget your visit to this place. Try it once, I guarantee you'll be back. As for price, I think $3 is very reasonable.

It's expensive and crowded, yes, but also delicious. The Torpedo was a bit rich for me (and I typically love rich food), but the Liege Waffle and the frites are fantastic. Better, in fact, than those I had while visiting the actual city of Bruges.

I LOVE Man vs. Food, so when I moved out to Salt Lake, I made it a priority to try Bruges before I saw Temple Square or the Great Salt Lake. My first experience was with the Machine Gun. Now, I'd never had lamb before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It wasn't the greatest thing in the world (I loved the spiciness though!), but the frites and the baguette were to die for. I mean, oh my God! For anyone who hasn't seen the Man vs. Food episode, just look up Bruges Waffles & Frites on youtube and it'll give you the 411 on how the frites are made. Anyway, yeah, they're amazing. I've been back 3-4 times during the semester and have gotten the frites each time. I got the andalouse sauce the first time I went back, because I just LOVED it on the machine gun, but I've since made the Samurai sauce my regular--again, I LOVE spicy! Regrettably, I have yet to try the waffles, which give the shop its heavenly odor, but that's just been a product of my not being there at the right time. I'm just always in the mood for the frites! The ambiance of the shop is welcoming... it really does feel like an escape from the USA! It is SMALL, though. When it gets busy (and when I say busy, I mean more than 3 people), you're shoulder-to-shoulder. That's my only complaint though, and I won't let that tarnish a 5-star review. I LOVE BRUGES!

  • JD N.

These waffles blew my mind. I got the Liege vanilla waffle with creme fresche and my mouth is still watering. They are the perfect mix of crunchy, chewy and soft. Don't go expecting a plate of waffles though, these are snack waffles and aren't much bigger than your hand, but they still taste like something you once had in a dream.

  • Rick M.

Love this place. Waffles are great, but I'm all about the frites. A few of the reviews complain about wait times when they go to Bruges, but I've probably gone about 10 times in the year it's been open and only had to wait once or twice. Also, they make the frites when you order them, so that might take a little extra time (which is worth it). Try all the different flavors of mayo, they're great.

This is my favorite place when I drive through Salt Lake City. The waffles are amazing and remind me of our vacation to Belgium. The waffles are liege style so they have large chunks of sugar in the them, which makes them absolutely amazing. Recommend topping them with speculous. The fries and hot dog is also quite good. Strongly recommend...can't go wrong!

Here's the thing: the first half of the machine gun is the best sandwich of your life. By the time you get to the middle you are wondering what you got yourself into. As you look down at those last few bites, you hate that sandwich with all of your being (and you hate yourself a little too). My advice is to go for the fries and amazing array of sauces and leave the machine gun for the extremely ambitious eaters (or share it with a friend).

Oh snap! This place is amazing. The first time I went I just got a plain waffle with vanilla ice cream. I watched them put in the batter and then sprinkle sugar all over, so that it caramelizes with the heat and becomes a crispy crust. My second time visiting was even better! My husband and I shared a waffle with cookie butter, strawberries, and vanilla ice cream. (Plenty big to share between 2 people.) It was AMAZING! I have never tasted anything quite like it. In fact, my husband has been to Bruges in Belgium. We've been planning a trip to Europe and I said, "Do we need to go to Bruges?" And he said, "No, the best thing there is a waffle. And we already have the same quality in downtown SLC!" This place is the real deal. Go! P.S. It's a little uncomfortable when you visit in the winter because there is one small bench of indoor seating. But if you go in the warmer weather months, there is lots of outdoor seating which is pretty charming.

  • Taylor C.

Waffles don't get much better. There are pretty tiny portions but surprising filling and literally the best. I got a waffle stuffed with Belgian chocolate and topped with bananas and fresh whipped cream. It was to die for and melt in your mouth. It's a little over priced though and the service I experienced was really slow. Overall thought def worth it. I hear their fries are amazing too but have yet to try them! It's a quick in and out place. You place your order at the counter and then grab it when it's ready. There is indoor seating at booths (seat yourself) or outdoor.

  • Angeline N.

I can't forget about the waffle I had here. It was just perfection. There was a little bit of a crunch from the sugar that had slightly caramelized on the top. The waffle itself was very fresh and fluffy. The "creme fraiche" was light and the right level of sweet. Topped with fresh fruit, this one was a game-changer for sure.

I have revisited Bruges Waffles a few more times and have had a much better experience. I still feel like the prices are a bit steep, but the quality of the food is really good. My favorite is the Bruges waffle, which is the leige waffle with strawberries and creme fresh. Their creme is so amazing, nothing like whip cream out of a can, and is even better than most homemade cream I have had. The creme is more like ice cream (thick and flavorful) than the light airy store bought stuff. Their fries are really good and be sure that you really want a large before you order, the pictured size is the actual size. Four of us shared a large and we didn't even put a dent in them. The staff has been a lot nicer on our return visits and I am happy that I gave this place a second chance.

Easily one of the best places to eat in all of Salt Lake City. If you haven't eaten here yet, you have totally missed out. The waffles are amazing and if you are in the mood for more of a meaty taste, make sure you try the Freak'n Dog. By far and away the best dog in Salt Lake. One warning: there is no indoor seating. So you are going to be outside.

I called to check hours and was told they would be open at least for anther hour. I arrived within 10 minutes of my call and was told they were closing. When I asked why I wasn't told that on the phone I was informed they didn't know they were closing 10 minutes before. So despite having posted hours don't expect this place to actuAlly be open. It's clearly managed and operated by a bunch of kids who make decisions like most kids.

Look... I'm not going to make any bones about it. I ate a waffle with cookie dough spread on it. I'd like to say I'm not ashamed but there's a little tickle in my conscience that is trying to tell me I should be making better choices in my life. But over the years I have learned that I can take those kinds of notions and cram them deep down inside... not unlike how I take a waffle covered in cookie dough spread and cram it down my pie hole. Whatever. The liege waffles here are good. And the options for toppings, while they don't hold a candle to my hometown Waffle Window, are still tasty, and plenty sinful. But what it really comes down to is the quality of the waffle. Does it have that crystalized sugar crunch? Both dense and fluffy at the same time? Light and thick? Does it waltz down the fine line between the attributes that can make a waffle disappointing in either direction? It pretty much does. The space is tiny. The service is quick. The waffles are good. So face that conscience, tell it to take a hike, and order what you damn well please. And put it directly in your pie-hole. Or should I call it your waffle-hole?

I had Bruges Favorite (or something like that) which is a waffle with strawberries and creme on top. The strawberries and cream was very good (not sure how anyone can mess that up) but the waffle was terrible. The longer I ate the waffle and also the cooler it got, the harder the waffle became. It got so hard it could not stick my fork in it anymore. The taste of waffle was okay but the hardness made it gross almost like someone microwaved it too long. I would have given one star but the strawberries and cream was good. Most people were gettinh the fries maybe those are good....

The food here is great, but I feel obligated to rate one star because of how long it took to get food. Over an hour! And it wasn't even busy! Unacceptable.

Food was great. Tried the Ricky's Burger and was very flavorful unlike most burgers out there. Wife had the Freak N Dog and she enjoyed it too. For dessert, had the waffle with ice cream with Belgian chocolate, and it was good!! We are from LA and thought we've been to some good casual food restaurants, but we have discovered a new favorite in Salt Lake!!

I have sampled waffles in some of the great cities of the world but have never had one better than at Bruges located in downtown SLC. There is not much interior seating so its a difficult place to visit with children during the winter but the patio furniture in the summer is awesome. My favourite topping is the creme fraiche with fresh fruit. The machine gun sandwich is delicious and the frites are too. Whenever family visits from Alaska and Canada, they always request to eat here.

I dont have words for it. Little bistro with huge soul! The Machine Gun sub is just very sick idea, but totally worth tryin'!!! And the fries are heavenly!! These guys just killed it!

I've been here a few times the fries are fire and I forget the name of the waffle but it is AMAZING!!! Waffle monster? I think it's called... Best thing this side of the Mississippi

Bruges' is perhaps my all that me favorite eatery in Salt Lake. I come visit SLC at least once a year and I always make sure to stop by and have a waffle. Bruges' adheres to the basic rule of good food: simple food done well. They focus on waffles, frites, and one or two sandwiches and that's pretty much it. The flavor is always spot on, delicious, the service is always good, positive, and although not always super fast, worth the wait. Don't get me wrong I don't hold the wait for food against them. This is a very small shop that can get very crowded on busy days, I applaud them for being able to maintain such good service during times like these. My personal recommendation is a cinnamon leige waffle with speculoos on the side.

Did I seriously just drop $18 for a sandwich and waffle? I am by no means cheap when it comes to food. I will drop $45 for Brazilian BBQ pretty much any day of the week, but that's because I'm getting quality food. But holy crap, nearly $20 for a place that leaks water when it rains? Not okay. You could say this place had charm, but I wouldn't. Maybe the roof wasn't leaking...maybe it was the peeing baby cherub statue fountain they have placed above their detached fridge full of drinks and dipping sauce. Yup. You read that correctly the first time. Peeing. Baby. Fountain. Did I get peed on? Standing room is literally nonexistent. There's no way you can comfortably bring a group here. Based on the appearance and atmosphere alone, there's no way this place could get full stars from me, even if the food was phenomenal. The food was okay. I'd describe it as "perfect drunk food". It's perfect fatty food for drunchies. Too bad they're only open til 9 or 10. The waffle was good with the homemade whipped cream, but it wasn't anything mind blowing. It was dense, sweet, and had a crunch to it, very candy-like. The sandwich was alright. I definitely wouldn't order it again, especially since it's over priced. I actually preferred the fries over the actual lamb sausage itself.

This place truly bought me back to my trip to Belgium. A strong accented gentleman, who I assumed to be the owner, was obviously from Bruges and his food definitely confirmed it. I ordered the machine gun sandwich, which was out of this world. Leave it to the Belgians to know how to make amazing sauces to dowse perfectly made lamb sausages and fries in. I had to try the aromatically pleasing waffles, and let me tell you, it didn't disappoint. Definitely will be back every time I'm in Salt Lake City.

Known for their waffles, this place is located downtown and has outdoor seating which worked since there was little seating inside. Having spent the last 8 hours running around airports, I was hungry. I ordered the machine gun and fries. The fries were good. The machine gun, a baguette with two Merguez (lamb sausages) and Andolouse sauce, was overdone on the sauce. I found myself thinking "Ahh,there's a couple of more bites left" I had already wiped some of the sauce away already a few times. My wife had fries and the Flemish Stew which she enjoyed. If I go back, I'm trying the waffles and, hopefully, update my review. Parking is right in front alongside the road and in front of the park.

These are the best waffles I've ever had. They're good even without any toppings. Their fries are average but their sauces more than make up for whatever the fries are lacking.

Oh yes! If you watch Man vs Food before coming, you will know exactly what to expect and will not be disappointed! Even if you cannot eat it all, order the torpedo waffle, (chocolate stuffed), with any of your favorite toppings, (we had strawberries and fresh cream), and also order the Machine Gun. ( you only live once!) These two items came about $20 but the my husband and I shared it with my ten year old daughter. It's a lot of food. And wonderful!

My boyfriend took me here for the first time. I didn't realize that it was so tiny inside, but it's ok because there are tables outside. My boyfriend LOVES the machine gun sandwich, I on the other hand thought it was ok. I am not a big fan of lamb though that's probably why. Now on to the waffles, the guy inside recommended we get the waffle, whipped cream and strawberries. YUM!! I really liked it! the waffle was delicious. That's why it deserves 4 stars! haha!

Passing through SLC, saw this place on Yelp! and very glad we did. Best waffle I've ever had - amazing. Little (very) hole in the wall but the food is a gem. Don't miss it!

  • Natalie T.

Wow. Yum. I had a waffle with the crunchy Biscoff/cookie spread... amazing. This place is small, but efficient, and all the toppings are delicious. I think it's a little pricey since at the end of the day you're still just getting a waffle, but it's too tasty for me to question it too much.

  • Yvette B.

I will never, ever enjoy another waffle if it is not from here. We knew we had to stop here on our last trip to SLC after not making it the last time ... And as soon as I got home, I knew I had to go back. We waited forever, in a long line, in the rain. And it was worth it. First, the guy who owns the place was there and he was a hoot. Also, you can WATCH them make your food, which is interesting, and I think great, because then you know if they spit in it or whatnot. Second, the waffles are TO DIE FOR. Did I mention the waffles are TO DIE FOR?

I had seen a lot of my friends checking into this place on Foursquare and Yelp, and would always hear how amazing it was. To be honest, it sounded too trendy, and I was turned off by that, but then I saw the Man vs. Food episode, and saw The Machine Gun...end of story. I stopped in one afternoon to give it a go and got The Machine Gun. Needless to say that the sandwich was amazing, the bread was fresh, and after tearing through the pile of Frites smothered in Andalouse sauce, I could taste the sausages that had a nice zing to them. The Machine Gun was a win - A+ (come hungry when you order this) The Flemish Stew was amazing The Waffles are something that you dream about, and the owner is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. My one complaint, is there is no soda fountain...however, they have a small fridge where you can purchase a variety of canned beverages. Highly recommended

Holy crap. If you are in Salt Lake you have to go here. Get the Liege Waffle. I've had it in Belgium and this definitely lives up. I e had no other place replicate Liege like them. Also, they're super cool and nice. And it's very very inexpensive!

    (5)
  • Felix B.

Amazing food. I'm especially a fan of their dessert waffles. If it's your first time, definitely get the Waffle Monster. The only complaint I have is that they are a little more expensive than you would expect. Oh, and if they ever ask if you want speculoos, SAY YES!

  • Jeanne Z.

I found out about this restaurant from Adam Richman and Man vs. Food. I was really grateful we were able to fit this stop into our trip. I ordered the Torpedo Waffle for my hubby and he was in love with the Liege Waffle stuffed with Belgian Chocolate. Belgians seriously know how to do waffles! And, I got a medium size order of the Belgian Frites, and they were worth the wait. I enjoyed talking with the owner for a bit, and he recommended the "Samurai Dipping Sauce" for me since I like spicy food, and that was perfect.

  • Dan T.

Staff appeared uninterested with good service at best, or down right rude at worst. Disappointing. Maybe I am just not their target customer. Waffle was good but not enough to bring me back. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer friendly service and good food when handing over my money.

Regularly swing by this place as well as the location in Sugarhouse. Fantastic waffles, frites and love the machine gun sandwich. They have added some items which I can bring myself to try because everything else is so damn good. I love this place.

  • Jonna C.

Mmmmm..... Waffle with creme fraiche and speculoos. How come more people in this world are not talking about/eating speculoos? It's like a buttery, caramelly sauce with little bits of crisp cookie in it and it is delicious, my friends. Long live the speculoos! And the creme fraiche. And the waffle. Long live all those things together!!

If you are in Salt Lake City, you must try their Machine Guns and of course, their special waffle filled with Chocolate. I do have to say, the sausage and fries on a hot dog buns with extra kick of the secret sauce on top...MY GOD! IT IS SO GOOD! Food coma~ Ok, the only reason I marked it down because the waffle. The chocolate bar in the middle is extremely sweet that you cant even finish it. ::choke choke:: But next time, I will try to order myself a 20 dollar worth of Waffle. =D I do warn you, the place is extremely small but very popular. It is hard to find a seat. Caputo's does NOT welcome their customers.

  • Scott W.

Amazing place in a great little area of SLC. Monster waffle with raspberries and blueberries is the way to go. The waffles are cooked like I've never had them before where the sugar caramelizes as it cooks. Staff is very friendly and very helpful as well.

    (5)
  • Elaine P.

Had the machine gun sandwich, torpedo waffle, and fries with lemon pepper dill dip. The waffle is so delicious, however, the chocolate to waffle proportion seemed to be off in my opinion. They need to add more chocolate in the middle of the waffle. The machine gun sandwich was awesome!! The fries were as expected but the lemon pepper dill made it a perfect match! Would definitely return if ever I get a chance to visit SLC again :)

  • Long T.

Ahhh, it's nice to get a very satisfying sandwich with the spicy lamb sausage, Belgian frites (French fries), and the Andalouse mayonnaise in the middle of the bread. Mmmm... The Machine Gun sandwich is as great as advertised! Only thing is that the sandwich is $9.25, so it can be a bit spendy. That said, it is a one-of-a-kind treat you should indulge in when you get to Salt Lake City. On a beautiful sunny day, you can't go wrong with one of these nap-inducing pleasures!

  • Mike O.

Machine gun - five stars. Spicy, crispy, flavorful as all get out, unique, filling. Fantastic! Waffles - better than everything. In the world. I used to get the torpedo, which was a 10/10. Then I discovered that you get a bit more chocolate with the chocolate on top instead.. And I think it's 50 cents cheaper. So its a 15/10. The creme fresh is unbelievable. All the fruit is fresh. I heard from someone that a place in Provo was better (the Awful Waffle). It's not close. Bruges is authentic, delicious, consistent, the service is usually very friendly, the frites are world class. I can't recommend this highly enough. If they were $3 instead of $6 I would be dead already because I would never stop eating them. Good people, great food. Do it!

  • Chris W.

I haven't had a lot of Belgium waffles so I don't qualify as an expert, but these were very good. I didn't try the frites. I wish I had because people say they're good. It's not a place you'd come to daily or weekly or even monthly. But if you're in the mood for Belgium waffles then this is the place. Not a full meal. Feels more like a dessert place to come to for a snack

Don't expect anything less than super rich and indulgent comfort food, all served up in a classy Euro type street stand ambiance. When I arrived I decided to go all out, this was my dinner and desert. I ordered the Machine Gun sandwich (only sandwich on the menu, good thing I love lamb) and a waffle with blueberries and creme fraiche. The sandwich was large with 2 (hot dog not bratwurst sized) lamb sausages, covered with Frites and sauce/aoli. It could easily be shared (especially if you plan to get a waffle too). The sausages had a very intense lamb flavor, if you are not a fan of the flavor of lamb you might reconsider the sandwich. But I enjoyed it with the aoli, they complemented each other well (next time I may request the sauce on the side). The baguette was fresh and the Frites were amazing, fresh and crisp! The waffle is a Liege waffle, yeast based and very dense and sweeter than the variety you will find at your typical breakfast joint. They use fresh seasonal fruit or chocolate and its all made to order (no stacks of waffles sitting around and reheated). The creme fraiche whipped perfectly and just lightly sweetened allowed each ingredient and the waffle to be enjoyed individually and as a whole. Yum!!

  • Tom J.

I applaud the concept, but not the execution. On one visit, I had a waffle, which was tasty, but the toppings were cloyingly sweet. On a repeat visit, we ordered the Flemish stew alone (no fries). It was delicious. However, it was literally a half cup of stew (perhaps 4-5 ounces filled in an 8 ounce paper cup). I was extremely annoyed to have paid $7 for a few bits of stew. Finally, while sitting and eating we had to listen to a manager berating an employee over her work schedule. In such a tiny place where everyone can hear, this was inappropriate. Needless to say, won't be back.

  • Trenton V.

Come on, it is just a waffle, how could it be good? Well, now I know, superior texture, little pieces of brown sugar or something embedded inside, perfectly not too rich cream Fraiche and some slightly grilled fruit = a unique wonderful tasting experience not to be missed. Also: ethical and friendly staff saved my wallet for me when I left it there by accident. Score.

Fries with their "green sauce" were unbelievable as usual. The waffle with creme fraiche and strawberries never fails to impress.

    (5)
  • Jacqueline W.

What an excellent, inexpensive treat! Every item is freshly prepared, homemade, and delicious. The fries are crispy and salty, the waffles are sweet and dense, the creme fraiche is rich and luxurious, the "belgian coffee" is a dessert unto itself. While I would not suggest going for a meal, per se (unless you specifically pine for the stew or the sausage sandwich), due to the limited menu options and the cholesterol/sugar/sodium density in such small portions...Bruges offers the best snacks in the city. Spectacular treats and friendly service.

    (5)
  • Sam B.

Yeah.... not so impressed. While their waffles were good they weren't that special and definitely not enough food for your money, the biggest problem though is that your meal comes out one thing at a time, you might get your fries then the person before you will get there waffle then someone else will get their fries then your wife will get her fries and sandwich then someone else will get their waffles then you might get yours by then or your kid might get a part of their meal and so on and so forth..... Next thing I didn't like is that the tables are out on the sidewalk because there is no room in the restaurant and there are not enough tables even outside so as you are sitting there eating out of your paper tray with your plastic fork on the sidewalk people are just walking by going to the bakery and you are thinking, "why didn't I just go to IHOP or Village Inn where I could have gotten as good of a waffle for much less, been warm in a comfortable booth and actually have a strong enough fork to cut it with" One more thing I didn't like is you just have to get your own condiments out of the fridge. Have a nice day:)

  • Bud H.

The fries are amazing. Gotta love the twice-fried thing. The waffles are surprisingly filling. Very dense. The machine gun is great. Love the sauce. I also really enjoy the new sausage item without casing - forget the name of it. Although this place tends to be on the pricey side, it's well worth the occassional visit.

Basically a great place to go if you don't care about calories. The waffles are off the hook, the fries are off the hook and the sandwiches too. Anyone I take here wants to go back. Great place to eat.

I found Bruges doing a yelp search around my hotel and had to try it, so I walked down once I got into town. It was after 2, so there wasn't a big crowd. I asked the girl what she would recommend and she was very helpful. Since she said most people like the vanilla waffle, I decided to go with the vanilla waffle with their homemade creme fraiche and the traditional strawberries. Holy cow, it was awesome! I can't really say much more than others have said already. The waffle was hot and crispy with the inside soft and perfectly chewy. I really enjoyed the creme fraiche and they cut the strawberries out of a fresh box right in front of me. Can't get any fresher than that!

Totally legit! Visited Bruge while living in Europe and thought I'd never taste that heavenly taste again until today. Oh my gosh, so good. The waffles were amazing, the frites are awesome. We will be regulars for sure!! Try it! You'll like it!! (And if you don't, I'll eat it for you!) ;)

  • Ray M.

The food here is actually really good, but the prices are crazy high! It cost me about 14 bucks for a sausage and frites basket and a waffle with some whipped cream. IT'S A FREAKING WAFFLE!!! I can't figure out why the price is so inflated. Unfortunately that reason alone will keep me from coming back expect once every lunar eclipse on the 29th day of February.

Machine Gunn goodness!!!! That lamb sausage was ridiculous. Don't ask questions just eat that explosion bomb of flavor.

  • David N.

I almost never give 5 stars but this place rocked. Small inside, but the food is worth the trip. In Brugge a few years ago, I had at least one waffle a day, and this place rivals anything I had in Belgium. Make sure you have the Belgian fries--they're Belgian, not French. Remember that.

  • Jerrod E.

This food was delicious. Nice sized sandwich with great food service. Super small reasturant but if you have to stand in the snow waiting for your food, be patient the food is worth it. Tons of sauces that are full of flavors. There is even zen packaged and ready to go out the door for anyone still in search of it. The chick with short hair went down the whole menu helping me decide.

Yelp drew me into this tiny food mecca. The place is nothing fancy, but there is character in every corner and in every bite. I ordered the Machine Gun Sandwich (since my fellow Yelpers swore by it) for about $10 bucks. According to the waitstaff here, you can order this entry anytime after they obtain their morning baguettes. MGS for breakfast/brunch is possible! I felt myself gain weight while downing the grease drenched fries and sandwich. I can't say the tummy feeling was too pleasant but my taste buds begged to differ. The sausages and fries are soaked generously with their mayonnaise and spice based Andalouse sauce- traditionally Belgian. There is limited seating outside so be sure you get the order to-go just in case. I had a seat outside and it was freezing...might be helpful to know the weather ahead of time as well. Next time I'm trying the waffles!

I was in town for a conference and I promised myself that despite of my crazy conference schedule, I was going to make a point to come here. Boy, am I glad that I did. This is a true hole in the wall, there's always a line out the door because you can't fit more than 3 people in there. I had the vanilla waffle with strawberries, and it was the most amazing worthy-of-a-walk dessert I have ever had! The waffle's flavour was lightly vanilla-ed with a nice crunch to it. Also, there's a small light layer of crispy sugar surround the waffle. Having a bite with the light tartness of the strawberry was the right balance of sweet and tart. It was refreshing to say the least and it made me feel like I was being healthy since strawberry is a FRUIT. :) I saw a lot of people getting the frites, and MAN did I wish I had a friend there with me to pig out with. Dear Bruges, will you come back to Raleigh with me?

  • Bradley S.

The Machine Gun is just a made for TV dare. It's a lot of fried food on a big bun with secret sauce. When you're done hit Rawtopia for a thorough cleans. I haven't tried the waffle but now that they've opened a second shop in SH I should be able to stop in for a bite

Stopped here based on advise from friends whom I shan't be taking any future suggestions from. We got a waffle with icecream and a Machine Gun. It was pretty pricey. The waffle came out first, and it was, by itself so sweet it made my teeth hurt. It reminded me of a waffle-shaped cookie. It was okay, but really too sweet for me. The Machine Gun came out, and the label of "sandwich" is an axiom. It's inedible. The frites that topped it were good ... nice a crispy, but I was disappointed in every other facet of this thing. The sausage wasn't good, the bread was too chewy for human teeth to rend, and I wasn't pleased. Worst of all, we got there just as the deli next door closed so I wasn't able to get in there to get something edible. I left hungry with uneaten food ... the rarity of that is my justification for a single star review.

Good stuff but don't try to go for a jog after eating here. Had the Flemish Stew and famous sandwich (drawing a blank), both were great and the frites were awesome.

EVERYTHING HERE IS PHENOMENAL!!! I RECOMMEND: The Machine Gun Sandwich Fresh baguette stuffed with 2 merguez (lamb) sausages, topped with fries and Andalouse sauce. This sandwich is slightly spicy, but 100% DELICIOUS! Torpedo Waffle Topped with Creme Fraiche Crisp belgium waffle w/sugar pearls embedded throughout the sweet batter then right before it is served they cut a slit into the waffle and slide two bars of belgium chocolate into the waffle. Top with Creme Fraiche, homemade whipped cream is also sweet and to die for, and/or other delicious toppings as well. Do as the Belgiums do, eat waffles whenever wherever and often. Next time I plan on trying their famous Frites solo with homemade dipping mayos. Specifically I am eyeing their Aioli Mayo.

it say the price is cheap,, it is not at all!!! there is no way you will pay under 11$ remember this is a waffle not steak ! so the price tag need to get updated ! i feel i got cheated I never have been a big waffle person, but now i am addicted to this place open in sandy!

Tried all three of their specialties: the waffles, the machine gun sandwich and the Fr.. mixed sausage. I would say all three were as good as advertised, and I will definitely come back next time I was in Utah. As a bonus this place has very friendly staff and good location.

This place is a little overrated. The food is really heavy. It is okay, nothing to write home about. I had the cinnamon waffle with strawberries and cream. I also got a small frites with aioli mayo. The aioli was good. The frites were super greasy and too crunchy. The waffle was kind of hard and very very sweet. If i ever went back, I would split the waffle for dessert with someone. On the walk back to my hotel my stomach felt SO heavy....This is going to take a while to digest. Not healthy nor light at all, which wasn't what I was expecting, but still.

It's been about a year since I've satisfied my belgian waffle cravings, and after having lazed around the Farmer's Market this past Saturday, it sounded like quite the treat. Not to mention, I had just been reminded of my visit here after having watched a rerun of Adam Richman devouring his way through a machine gun on Man v. Food. While I am never hungry enough when I come here to consume an entire carb and meat extravaganza, I definitely would say that it's your typical man ... can I call it a sandwich, I was going to go for monstrosity, but in a good way. Anyways, I always order the same thing whenever I come here: cinnamon waffle, with strawberries*, and creme fraiche. The reason why I put an asterisk behind strawberries is because I found out they also include peaches when they are seasonal, and I'm personally one who fervently believes peaches are the bee's knees. However, when peaches are not in season, strawberries are a perfectly good addition. Also, their creme fraiche is homemade, WIN. No, seriously, even if you don't prefer any accompaniments on your waffles, you HAVE to get creme fraiche. It will change your mind. Something about that smooth, creamy, but fluffy, texture of creme fraiche, that's a little richer than your average whipped cream and a little lighter than a dollop of sour cream, added with just a hint of sweetness. ...Creme fraiche aside, the actual waffle itself is a masterpiece. It's chewy, and light, but dense enough to justify the cost of paying $7 (toppings included) for a single waffle. I could keep going on, but honestly, you just need to come here to experience all that is a belgian waffle.

I am Dutch, and had plenty of Belgium frites in my life as other frites and patat. I give a 4 because they gave me the good mayo and curry sauce for free, knowing well they couldn't give me frites I know should be like.

This maybe one of my favorite places in salt lake city! Waffles, yum. Fries, delicious. Sausage, amazing. It is so many delicious things in one tiny place! Then there is the owner who is hilarious, and is from belgium. it is just great!

  • Eliza A.

This place is a cute little hole in the wall, with great dessert waffles! I ordered a cinnamon waffle with bananas, and it was sweet, perfectly spiced, and nice and hot! I also tried the "Torpedo" which was two waffles with Belgian chocolate inbetween; very good! I am definitely going back!

  • Carly R.

I am a little torn with this place because their dessert waffles are out of this world but the savory food they serve is really kind of disgusting and I think their hours suck. The waffles are freshly made and the options of toppings are awesome! They have homemade creme fraiche and belgian chocolate. It is delicious and you should try one, just make sure you get there early because during the week they close at 8pm! What dessert place downtown closes that early? Stupid. The Machine Gun sandwich is disgusting and tastes like, well, nothing really. I really like lamb but this lamb sausage is just gross, dry and has no flavor. I would recommend grabbing some food at Caputo's or Ekamai next door and just stick to dessert here.

How can you even write a review that stands out of seventy (70) plus reviews? Wait and see. You can't make these at home. Oh, gurl, you can search for a recipe on yahoo, bing or gurgle but when you find it... Haaaa, you'll figure out it's easier to head over to Bruges and have them do it for you. These waffles are da bomb. There's nothing anywhere in Salt City that even compares. Too bad you either have to sit outside or come home smelling like a fryer if you eat inside, but the sun feels good. Right? We usually get one with strawberries, chocolate and whipped cream to share. Don't choke at the price, and remember that chocolate they use is not cheap, nor are the ingredients in that waffle you just inhaled. There are secret ingredients in the recipe that are difficult to come by especially in our land locked little city. The fries are good, but really, dear, it's spring you do want to fit in that new bathing suit, right? Sit there and wonder how many meals people are going to skip after they inhale a large batch of fries and a couple tubs of sauce and then a waffle! Chuckle, or as a friend said the other day, chortle all the way home. Or better yet, walk around the park a few times. Uh, maybe not.

One of the "must eats" if you are just passing through town. My choice: Vanilla waffle with creme fraiche and fresh strawberries. A dozen gourmet mayos to complement the frites, each unique.

Oh my goodness! The best waffles I have ever tasted. I loved every bite and wanted more. Crunchy and sweet they didn't even need syrup. My husband and I both had vanilla waffles with fresh cream and fruit on top. I thought the bananas were a perfect complement but could have done without the whip cream. Due to the limited seating we sat outside. It was a little cold so dress accordingly. We splurged a little bit and bought a hot chocolate. Holy richness. While delicious I could not finish it, because it was a little too dark for my taste. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the neighborhood. I can't wait to visit again!

These are by far the best waffles I've ever had. This place puts to shame any other place that I have been to that had "belgian" waffles. It has raised the waffle bar to where it should be, and everything below it will no longer be considered "belgian" by me. Owned by a belgian guy and stuck almost in an alley close to downtown SLC, these are by far the best waffles I've ever had, and has made me avoid waffles in most other places around the country. The fries were also worthy, considering Belgium is the birthplace of fries, they did not shame their historical roots.

Most delicious waffles, could be less sugary though.... Toppings are tasty too, real whipped cream and real Belgian chocolate. Overall, a sugar bomb :-) If you don't like overly-sweet treats, try a waffle with fresh fruit instead of other toppings... As other reviewers mentioned limited space which is offset by outdoor seating in summer. On the other hand, the place has a genuine ambiance of a European waffle shop. Also, a friendly owner who likes to chat in Dutch :-) Great place to go on Friday night for dessert, even better when hungry after a night out or movies.

Local favorite and there's good reason why...Waffles are excellent, frites and several sauces really good too. The place almost always has a line, but is in a great area to hang out in on a nice summer night. Waffle with creme fresh is great! Recommend if... A) You're looking for a popular local place to take someone from out of town. B) it's a nice night...perfect endcap for a downtown stroll. C) You're adventurous...the place has a TON of dipping sauces to choose from.

Waffles were very raw in the middle. Not in a just right kind of way. $7 for the portion size, very European. :-) I won't be coming back for the waffles. Maybe the fries are better and authentic. I'm a bit picky having lived in the Netherlands for 3 years. Bottom line, pass on the waffles. Eh, just skip the whole experience. Jammer.

If it were possible to give 10 stars to my favorite eatery of all time, this would be it. I live about an hour away, and ate here 4 times in one week once I tried it. The machine gun sandwich is totally unique. My husband is addicted to it. The frites are amazing. The best "french fries" I've ever had in my whole life. The torpedo is a belgian chocolate stuffed waffle. I dream about it. The Belgian waffles in general are something unique and amazing. They're sugary and crispy on the outside and definitely not like any homemade belgian waffles you've ever had. My first time going, the owner recommended a vanilla waffle with strawberries and creme fresh (fresh whipped cream). I've tried other combinations, but that one is simply the best. My last recommendation? Come with an extra $10 because you're gonna want to go back for seconds.

Man V Food said it was awesome...yelpers gave it 4.5 stars...added up to "stop in and give it a try" to me! Stop in I did. I ordered a vanilla waffle with strawberries. What I got was heaven. They come out looking all innocent, like "hey, I'm just a waffle - nothing dangerous about me!" And then you take a bite and it's all like "fooled you, sucker!!!" This isn't a waffle like you've experienced before...it's not an eggo, it's not your mother's/grandmother's waffle. It deserves to be called by another name. What that name is, I'll need to get back to you on, but trust me - you need to go. I also tried the Machine Gun. Tasty? Yes. Write home about it? No...except I guess I kind of am right now. Now, back to the waffles. I went back for a second on my way out the door. I've never done it before, but I wish I would have grabbed another. Please go and have another for me.

My body can handle the monstrously delicious waffles, savory sausage, and speciality fries about once a year--no more.

The only thing that would make this place better is a much bigger seating area indoors and a bigger patio. Maybe a roof garden? But this is not the nature of this beast. It is more of a permanent sidewalk vendor. Buy a waffle and cross the street to eat it while wandering the park, or on a park bench. Waffles are delicious. Plan on eating 1000 calories + here.

Perfect way to start a morning? Order some belgian waffles stuffed with dark chocolate topped with bananas...mmmmmmm! Add a side of frites, dipped in andalouse sauce and you're in breakfast heaven. Didn't get to try the machine gun, but if I'm ever back in SLC, I'm definitely going back for this!

I first ate at Bruges a few years ago after spending some time at the Downtown Farmers Market. It was the perfect delicious treat after perusing local wares. Pierre is a welcome addition to our downtown area. I love the teeny-tiny little shop and everything that comes out of it. The fries are deliciously hot and crisp (fresh each time!) and plentiful. DO NOT ORDER the large - unless you are planning to share. I watched a girl order two of these and then laughed at the shock on her face when she was handed one of them. She then asked if she could cancel the second - since just one was the size of her head. I also love the waffles. I've been to Brussels a few different times and always enjoyed the waffle bar windows that you could order a waffle at and then carry and eat. There are two different types of waffles - and if you order a Liege - you should understand it is decadently sweet - and one will be more than plenty even if it does not look large. Pierre also offers a "machine gun sandwich" which was recently named one of the best sandwiches in America. There's not a link to the book mention, but there is a write-up here: seriouseats.com/2011/01/… . They source local lamb which is spiced to perfection! The bread is also sourced locally. It's a stop worth making if you're in the area.

One more for the Bruges... This place is delicious. Don't forget the creme fraiche. Really- don't. I know that you want other toppings, but get those AND the creme fraiche. Got it? Good. =) The waffles are not cheap, and you'll feel like you're getting robbed for each additional topping you put on top of your waffle, but it's worth however much your total comes out to. As for the fries... "ehhhhhhh" is all I gotta say. Come here for the waffles, satisfy your companions who "don't really have a sweet tooth" with the fries.

So good. The speculoos spread is awesome just don't buy it by the jar there, super overpriced. You can buy the same stuff at Trader Joes (Cookie Butter) for $3.

The best waffles I've had in my life! My wife and brother-in-law said the same. I've been a few times now and I love it more each time. I like to have mine with chocolate and whipped cream. I've also had the fries with dipping sauces and loved them. They're just done right and very tasty. The owner and chef, a guy from Belgium named Pierre, is really nice too. It's a little expensive, but for a special treat, you won't regret it or forget it any time soon.

A restaurant dedicated entirely to Belgian waffles... Did I dream this? I went for breakfast and arrived about 15 minutes before they opened. I had read the good reviews and wanted a quick bite before heading back home from a long weekend in SLC. The owner (who happens to be a bona fide Belgian) saw us wandering around in front of the door, opened the door, greeted us, and told us to come on in, albeit 15 mins early! We were the only customers in there at that point, and the owner and the two guys working were super friendly to us. I felt like I was in Europe, except more laid back and nicer staff :-) The waffles aren't huge, but they are really dense, filling, and delicious! Both the vanilla and the cinnamon flavors were excellent, but I prefer the cinnamon. They are made out of sort of a soft dough as opposed to a batter, so texturally they are different (and better) than anything I've ever had. The outside gets almost caramelized in its crispiness and the inside is soft. The strawberries on top are fresh, and it's just awesome. This wasn't an issue for us, since we were the only ones in there at the time but I wonder what people do when it's more crowded, as there is only seating for about 6-8 people. All in all fantastic though!

Good god these are some amazing waffles! My wife and I went here and I ordered the machine gun sandwich and she ordered a cinnamon waffle with strawberries. The machine gun was phenomenal! The fries were the best I have ever tasted, the sausage was superb and the bread was outrageous. Obviously we both loved our food but, as is our custom, we tasted each others food and we promptly both ordered what the other had. My wife ordered the machine gun, yes she is that awesome of a women, and I ordered a cinnamon waffle with this crazy cookie spread from Europe the owner had us try. I do no even like waffles and I had to have one after tasting hers! To top this all off, they had Mexican coke with real cane sugar, such a beautiful thing. Ok so that is the food. In itself a real treat. There is more to love about this place however, specifically the owner. He is Belgian and he clearly loves his food. He takes his time with each customer to explain the options and have them try the crazy cookie spread. No rushing you through here. Even if there is a line, he wants each customer to have great service. Then he let loose with a fantastic statement that proved he was serious about food. A woman asked for a waffle with raspberries and he apologized that they did not have raspberries right now because they were out of season and the ones he could get were not very good. The woman laughed and gave him a little grief and he said "I am not going to serve crappy raspberries" A simple statement that revealed a great deal about his business philosophy. It brought a tear to me one good eye!

Have you guys ever seen that movie "Honey, I shrunk the kids?" You know how there's that scene when the kids are in the yard and they encounter this MASSIVE cookie in the grass and they're just noshing on this HUMONGOUS cookie, like shoving giant handfuls of creme into their mouths? If I could be shrunk really tiny and let loose in the Bruges store, that would be my dream come true. I would tear through their waffles. Not just a regular Bruges waffle, but the double decker one with two Belgian chocolate bars inside. I would literally be shoving my entire face into the chocolate, roll around in it. And then I would go swimming in their Belgian chocolate machine, which slow-churns real Belgian chocolate chips. I'd use their fresh whipped cream as a pillow. It would be awesome. Look, I'm not crazy. If you've ever had one of their waffles-- crispy, chewy deliciousness with sugary bits throughout-- you would not be shaking your head at me. It's that good. Did I mention we had braised beef that had been slow-cooked for 20 hours and it was scrumptious? Well, it was scrumptious. And their frites? They rival the ones at Pommes Frites in New York City. And that's saying a lot.

I went back to Bruges Waffles & Frites again yesterday, this time specifically to try the "Machine Gun." You must try this sandwich! Amazing baguette is topped with a couple links of lamb sausage, real Belgian frites, and an awesome sauce with some wacky French name. Had someone told me the sausage was packed with shawarma spices I would have tried this a long time ago! I knew I loved Belgium! Caution: Addictive!

So good! So good ! So good! I've been here many, many times and those delicious waffles do NOT disappoint! Fresh. Delicious. Sweet and Salty. All of my favorite things. Try the liege waffle for a more dense, sweet waffle. Try one of many sauces for your fries. Actually, try everything. More than once.

Bruges Waffles and Frites where dessert nirvana awaits in the form of the vanilla gaufre, a dense, moist confection served hot off the iron. Although Bruges sells the lighter liege waffle that I was more familiar with, they cannot hold a candle to these small, dense little jewels. Owner Pierre Vandamme has blessed Salt Lake City with a real gem here. They sell frites and a variety of dipping sauces sure to stretch the palate of we living in The Land of Fry Sauce. But, for me, this place is all about dessert. Although they offer ice cream, berries, and chocolate as potential toppings, after maybe a dozen of the things with topping combinations from plain to smothered, I go back to the simple vanilla waffle with creme fraiche. If I really feel the need for a change, I'll maybe do the cinnamon instead.

My spouse would give Bruges infinity stars for its food, if possible, and I think I would have given it two if I had gone alone. If you like sugar and fat, this is your place. The frites/fries were light and crispy, with just the right amount of salt. A small was more than enough for me; I did not try any of the dipping sauces. I also had a cinnamon waffle, which was excellent, although I was overwhelmed by the sweetness of it and couldn't finish it. My husband, however, polished it off after eating one of Bruges' famous "Waffle Monsters," a combination of waffles, strawberries, ice cream, and this cookie mixture that he reported was fabulous. Unfortunately, part of the reason that he was able to finish off my waffle in addition to the Monster is that the Monster wasn't so monstrously sized. He was quite surprised at how small the Monster was, especially for $9. Our fries/waffles were very, very, very good. However, I was displeased because there was no other food, besides fat and sugar, to cut the fat and sugar with (minus one star). He was displeased because the meal felt very overpriced (minus one star). I would suggest eating at Bruges if you're in the area, but think of it as a snack or dessert rather than a meal, and as a treat rather than an economical calorie-binge... although a tasty calorie-binge it will certainly be!

This little waffle place is where its at for waffles. A very small and cramped building contains inside mouthwatering, delicious waffles. I had the Vanilla Waffles with strawberry and cream fresh. The waffles really don't need toppings because they have a hint of sweetness to them, but I totally had the owner dress them up. I also order a side of frites, which you can choose a bunch of different mayo dipping sauces. I chose Anise, which was had balanced flavor. I'm not sure what it tasted like but it tasted good. Bruges indoor seating will most definitely fill-up quick, so if you want to sit inside you have to be luck enough to grab one of five seats. I can see this as being one of my favorite waffles places.

i only got to try the machine gun and i enjoyed it. i wouldn't say it was amazing or it's one of the best things i've ever eaten but it was good. the frites are perfect. the sauce was kinda heavy but flavorful. i'm not a huge fan of lamb but it was good, kind of salty, a bit oily, shaped like a small sausage but pretty good. i think i would have liked the sandwich much better if the bread was different. it was too hard and impossible to eat as an actual sandwich so i ended up eating the whole thing with a fork and knife piece by piece discarding the bread all together. wish i could have tried the waffles for dessert but there was unfortunately no more room in my stomach after all the machine gun madness. maybe next time

Like most people I saw this place on the Food Networks show Man Vs Food, so when I was in Utah for business I made it a top priority to stop by and try the infamous Machine Gun. The restaurant is small, so don't expect to sit down and be served but they do have a seating area outside and above the restaurant which is really nice on nice days. The Machine Gun sandwich is Huge, the lamb sausage is covered with french fries and there special sauce. You definitely have to eat a few fries before you dive into this sandwich. The french roll was kinda hard but other then that I truly enjoyed the sandwich. We also had the strawberry and whip cream waffle. The whip cream was homemade and extremely good. The service was fast and the owner was very nice. Definitely a place you need to check out if your ever in the Salt Lake City area.

I'm not gonna lie...I first heard about this because of them being featured on the Food Network. Machine Gun, what can you say that won't take away from it's greatness? Being featured on the Food Network you know you have to be doing something right! The attire is definitely casual and the whole place has a mom/pop shop vibe. Nothing fancy just focusing on providing SLC the best food possible!! For any locals this is definitely a must visit place. Having only visited it once I can say that Machine Gun will get you HOOKED on this place. Next visit I will have to try their waffles for sure!

I think Bruges Waffles & Frites changed my life. My wife and I went in ten minutes before Bruges closed for the night. The owner (I assumed because of his accent) still took his time to tell us about everything on the menu. We had the vanilla waffle with their house whipped cream, strawberries, and chocolate. You know how you hear about how women like chocolate more than sex? I'm not saying that Bruges's waffles are better than sex, but definitely the closest a food has come to the comparison. These waffles are not like regular waffles. I can try to explain but it wouldn't do it justice. Its a little pricey but its worth it. Next time I plan to have the infamous Machine Guns Sandwich.

Bruges has great waffles. I recently went there after brunch for dessert. My wife and I shared a waffle with strawberries and creme fraiche. For how much you get, adding toppings can become pricey rather quickly. There are a few spots outside where you can sit and eat, but those are very often full. I am glad to see new establishments moving into this area. Come and support it.

Wait, did someone write that the waffles could be less sugary?? Heaven forbid that should happen! The sugariness of the waffle matches perfectly with the richness of the creme fraiche and the tang from the strawberries/raspberries. The machine gun is great too. Maybe not 9 bucks great, but still delicious nonetheless. The frites are out of this world. They are the perfect combination of crispy and soft. Try lots of different mayo with them. My favorite was the greens.

Ordered the Machine Gun sandwich: lamb sausages cover with fries and andalouse sauce on a french baguette. Fries was crispy and very plentiful and the baguette was fresh. But not enough meat and the sauce was okay. Next time, I'm going to order something else.

We all split machine gun sandwiches and waffles with strawberries and whipped creme. Very good and unique food! Atmosphere is crowded inside the store. The surrounding area isn't what I would consider the safest (Liberty Park) but if you stay close it's quaint. Machine guns take a while but worth the wait!

French Fries & Waffles, what a duo! The creme fraiche and strawberries on top of a caramelized waffle were delicious and I loved the variety of dips for the frites. Definitely a repeat!

After watching Man vs. Food Utah, season 3, episode 6 and watching the construction of the machine gun sandwich, I knew I had to visit Utah. I was mesmerized as I watched the human weapon known as Pierre Vandamme construct la mitrailleuse. If you didn't know, the middle name Vandamme seems to be a household surname in Belgium, in the same vein as Wong for China, Nguyen for Vietnam, Smith for the United States and Doe for the unidentified people whose souls have passed on to the next. Getting to Salt Lake City around 1, we immediately threw our bags into the hotel and walked to Bruges. It was relatively to spot as it was the busiest restaurant on the block. In addition, it had a big drawing of the machine gun sandwich and its definition affixed to the storefront. I ordered the machine gun and waited anxiously outside. They have outdoor seating and in addition, have additional seating upstairs on the patio. Because this place is a tourist attraction, the wait was a little long. The Machine Gun is too big to eat like a sandwich. It is basically a baguette slathered in andalouse sauce, holding together two spicy Moroccan lamb sausages and Belgium frites, then doused with more andalouse sauce. Belgium frites are different because they are fried twice at two different temperatures; it remains crispy on the outside, yet soft and tender on the inside. The fries were pretty good, a tad bit on the salty side. However, dipped with that creamy andalouse sauce, it was money. I cleared a little off the top so I could start taking bites. Taking my first bite, I was shocked. The lamb sausage was dry and it was like eating a hybrid of a chinese lap churng but worse and a slim jim. There were no juices at all in the lamb sausage and it had a weird aftertaste. The machine gun is so rich and I had a hard time finishing my sandwich. The sausage coupled with the andalouse sauce has a slight kick to it, however, it is an empty kick. As a tourist, I recommend you try Bruges, however, I also recommend that you do not place all your dreams and hopes upon it like I have. It will leave you shattered and broken, a husk of a man you once were.

Unique treat in SLC. Disclosure: I got the Waffle Monster which was a little too much for me, but I am rating it a five stars for the quality of the waffles, fries and the restaurant. There is ample seating at this location (unlike downtown) and the waffles and frites are so scrumptious. I am anxious to go back and take some friends!

The food was very delicious. I had the machine gun sandwich and frites. The sausage had a delightful blend of spices and the sauce for the frites rounded out the meal. We will for sure be back.

They certainly corner a market in Salt Lake City, but I can't say I was blown away. I had the machine gun sandwich and my friend had a waffle. Considering the price the waffles are a complete rip-off. The machine gun sandwich was much better value, but still a pricey proposition (9.99 for fast food).

Hands down the best waffles I've ever had in the US, no exaggeration necessary. Bruges' waffles are rich and delicious and honestly taste great with any topping (although I'm partial to their vanilla waffle with chocolate and strawberries on top). If you're looking for a sweet treat in SLC look no further than this tiny whole in the wall. Expect pretty good service and the turn around on your food is fairly quick considering their making your waffle right in front of you. As for the saltier side of their menu, their fries are delicious and the Machine Gun Sandwich is certainly something to try at least once. There was no way I could eat one on my own (it's served on a huge baguette) so my husband and I ended up sharing the huge thing and both walked away happy. If you choose to order it, get ready for one manly sandwich filled with sausage, their special mayo, fries, and a whole lot of grease. All in all this place is GREAT, one of my favorites, and I try to make any excuse to go there when we're in Salt Lake.

Waffles and fries with curry fry sauce. I never thought I'd like such a combination, but it works for my taste buds. The waffles have the most perfect toothy texture and topped with strawberries and cream fraiche and maybe just a little chocolate it's perfection. The fries are pretty good. Maybe some of the best in Salt Lake, but what truly puts them above the competition are the fry sauces. I haven't had a bad fry sauce yet, but my favorite at the moment is the curry fry sauce, although the andalouse is pretty awesome as well. After seeing the Man v. Food episode featuring the Machine Gun Sandwich I knew I'd have to give it a try. It was delicious, spicy, and messy. If you have acid reflux or heartburn problems you may want to take measures to mitigate that. Your stomach might not thank you later. The only drawbacks that I can think of are parking and space. It's a small place and it's often packed because it's so delicious.

This place is great! Definitely some naughty food to get here. We went with our friends who for their honeymoon did a bike tour through Belgium and they this place was the real deal. Come ridiculously hungry. The fries are to scale to the drawings of them on the menu. The large is $8 and the size of a 4-year-old child. Waffles are amazing and generous in every way. They have this lamb sausage, fries sandwich on amazing bread with a really great aioli. We spoke to the owner and he said it is very much hard to find, authentic street food in Belgium. We thought it was delicious, especially the bread and sauce, but the sausage in there is so comically small and insignificant. It's $8 and not really worth it. I would only recommend getting it if you miss it from your days as a child in Belgium or something and can't find it anywhere.

HELLS YES! these waffles are a culinary delight and i want it now in my face. Listen it's a dessert and it's not really anything like your pre-mixed pour right out of a bottle to your pan waffles K. These suckers are thick and dense and you you chose from a variety of toppings of which i definitely recommend creme fraiche. I obviously had the creme fraiche and some strawberries and savored every tasty bite. I would give them 5 stars but i came in and ordered right as one girl ended her shift and another started, the one starting looked about 3 times more tired than the one leaving and totally lost my order. So after almost 20 minutes just kickin it outside and watching another customer get theres i asked WHAT UP! The owner, who is actually from Bruge i think, made sure we had them within 2 minutes and the other girl working loaded up on the toppings so it turned out well, i mean the waffle was so good she could have punched me in the face and said shut up and i would still have enjoyed it. I like food. I'll have to try the frites next time, they also look very good.

Bruges Waffles & Frites is delicious and unique. The waffles are unlike anything I've ever had. I had mine topped with bananas & creme fraiche and my husband had a cinnamon waffle topped with fresh peaches! We also had an order of frites with the Andalouse sauce. Also delicious. All the ingredients were so fresh. Service was great and friendly. Pierre himself helped us with the menu and made recommendations for us. Can't wait to go back on my next trip to SLC.

If I could eat at this place everyday without consequence, I would. Just like if I could eat chocolate cake every day, I would. The waffles are so sweet and dense and the frites so crispy (never, ever soggy). Usually Belgian waffles found in SLC are filled with tons of air pockets and bland. I'm happy to be able to enjoy the real thing, DENSITY. It is soooooo sweet and filling, my boyfriend and I share one every time we go. One is enough. When I'm feeling naughty I get the torpedo waffle, filled with Belgian dark chocolate OMG! I can never decide between all the awesome mayos. Small menu, but a good thing when it comes to this place. I hope I feel naughty again soon.......

Ok got the "famous" machine gun...although I'm not really a fries guy - they were just OK - but that's about it - didn't get the real Belgian frite feel of the super crispy but light outside and soft inside - maybe it had to do with me being the next to last customer of the day...dunno. The andalouse sauce was pretty awesome - tart, spicy, and of course mayo-ey. The baguette was more like a full grown piece of french bread - bigger than your average thin baguette (4in wide vs say 2.5in) - very crunchy and hard - real palate scraper - if you like that sort of thing. The sausage was also spicy and uber salty - but with all the bread and fries I think it sorta works - you just need to have bread and fries in the same bite or else it REALLY tends toward the salty side...very hard to piecemeal this sandwich that way - which would be the natural thing to do with a fries sandwich! In addition all the andalouse sauce on top sort of pushes you toward the knife and fork method of eating.... Now on to the waffles....oh lordy...the waffles are awesome. I had the vanilla, with the belgian chocolate, strawberries and whipped cream. So freakin good. They use these sugar pearls in their batter which are BB sized pearls of crystalized sugar - not hard - more like a granule of sugar than crunches then immediately dissolves in your mouth. Genius. Next time its....leave the gun....take the waffles....

Unbelievable waffles with creme fraiche. Try the cinnamon waffle with bananas and creme fraiche. Make sure you get an order of fries and try the zen dipping sauce (fresh ginger and shallot with five spice powder). What an amazing place! The owner is delightful. They do everything right here.

One of the best waffles i've ever tasted in my life !!! The place is small and there isn't much seats for customers and it is always crowded. It may take quite awhile to get what you ordered, but it is worth the wait !!! I ordered the "monster waffle" with speculoos, strawberries and vanilla ice cream. The Speculoos spread is imported from Belgium and it makes a good combination with vanilla ice cream. The "Frites" however, is rather disappointing. I've heard that it is special but when i tried it, it tastes just like normal french fries and it is also not very crispy as i've heard.

This place could not get any better if they secretly pumped heroine into the food. The machine gun sandwich will haunt your dreams with the delicious flavors, and sweet baby jesus the frites are incredible. This is an eatery that comes from french speaking Belgium. The service is friendly and the people there are always willing to share their knowledge and advice. These waffles are not your mothers waffles (unless your mother is an amazing Belgium woman who I am going to have to start stalking to get my fix) they are dough based not a batter based like in America. They are est with a little creme fresh and fruit or plain. They are open until 9 on Friday and Saturday night.

I grew up in Belgium and have never had fries (frites) quite like I did there. My wife and I stopped in and I was pleased to see that this "authentic" Belgian snack stand was actually owned and operated by a Belgian. Pierre is enthusiastic, friendly and very personable. The waffle was tasty and you can choose from either a vanilla or cinnamon flavor with fresh strawberries, whip cream, dark Belgian chocolate or ice cream toppings. My favorite were the 'frites'. These were just as I remembered them all those years ago. Hand peeled, deep fried with a dollop of mayo or one of 5-6 other sauces, including authentic, homemade Andalouse sauce. The location is perfect if you're visiting downtown Salt Lake City and just need a little snack to sit and enjoy the day.

I had been looking forward to trying this European style waffle and fry restaurant. We went on a Saturday morning while the Farmer's Market was buzzing across the street. The service was quite fast despite the long line that went out the door. We ordered their cinnamon waffle with peaches, a cinnamon waffle with bananas and an order of frites. All dishes were fresh and very good. All of the employees were very friendly and talkative - except for the cashier that got a little testy with me for a moment. I thought the food was great, we will definitely go back and enjoy more waffles there! SLC needed a cool place like this... Thanks Bruge's! I would like to suggest Eco friendly "corn" ware instead of plastic utensils though... help the environment.

Machine gun followed up by a torpedo blew me away. Food is amazing as well as the service. Staff is very friendly. I'm from out of town, but I'll be back each time I return to SLC. Tara you rock ;o)

After seeing "Man vs. Food"'s Adam Richman devour a Machine Gun Sandwich from Bruges, I had to give it a try. Already a big fan of thier spuds, I was excited to dig into this very original sandwich, which consists of a french baguette slathered in aioli, filled with two lamb sausages and a fist of frites which are deep-fried together, twice, then covered in another mayo based sauce. My first few in 2011 were awesome. But I've downgraded after having a couple in 2012 that were less than adequate. The bread seemed too hard, and the sausages seemed to have shrunk in size and flavor. I don't know if it's just me, or if the sandwich has legitimately changed, but it is off my list of the top sandwiches in SLC.

yummy waffles and fries. Try the Samurai sauce with your fries! amazing!

  • Chris T.

The owner is very friendly, and the waffles are the best I've ever had--they were both light and rich, with tiny pockets of crispy sweetness. I had a waffle monster. The crème fraiche was a perfect match, and the speculoos spread is an uncommonly good addition. Their frites were tasty too, and the machine gun sandwich is an experience. Be prepared to enjoy yourself.

OK, Salt Lake City really needs more places like this. This little hole in the wall is right next to Caputo's. It is tiny inside, but there are a few small tables out on the sidewalk. The place makes and sells Belgian waffles and frites, and is run by a Belgian ex-pat. Apparently, he used to sell the waffles every week at the Farmer's Market across the street in Pioneer Park, but the demand was so high he had to find a permanent residence for his wares. Are we glad he did. His frites served in a cone are always crispy and perfectly fried. A variety of tasty dipping sauces are available...make sure to try the Andalouse. But our favorite menu item are the Liege Waffles, a denser, chewier kind of waffle speckled with imported chunks of pearl sugar. The sugar caramelizes outside when cooked, but doesn't melt or dissolve so they are nice "prizes" every few bites. We topped ours with creme fraiche, but many different toppings abound. What a treat!

  • Jennifer B.

Some of the best fries in the city. The waffle seemed a little to dense for me, but maybe that's how authentic Belgian waffles are suppose to be. I did like the crispy sugary crust though. Someone else mentioned in their review that the machine gun sandwich was recently named one of the best in America, don't know about it being the best but it was still good.

If you want to sit down at this restaurant it's probably not going to happen, my closet is bigger than Bruges. I went here for lunch, they don't really have much of a menu, it would fit on a post it note. This isn't a place to get any sort of nutrition. Not for me. The choice is a greasy sandwich or a waffle loaded with sugar. It definitely is unique, I think thats why people like it. Go next door to ekami, your gut will thank you.

My husband and I went to Amsterdam for our honeymoon and as poor newlyweds lived on frieten and stroopwafel so I was naturally drawn to the fare here since the owner's cart was first seen on the event scene and the farmer's market. When I became pregnant with twins, I was thrilled to be able to have frites and waffles every day of the week in their new brick and mortar! The frites are hot, greasy in a good way, crispy, comforting and must be eaten immediately. Made traditionally from fresh cut potatoes that are twice-fried this makes for the perfect balance of hard shell to creamy interior. They are served in a paper cone. The sauces are good but seem a little pedestrian and uninspired. You get a tiny little container out of the frig in the flavor of your choice, two flavors with the large. There are only a disappointing 10 dipping sauces that are pretty traditional like andalouse, curry, aioli, spicy mayo, and green goddess. They should take some creative license from New York's Pommes Frites with their some 35 sauces including garnishes like raw onion, jalapeno and hot gravy. I also prefer the sauce on the frites applied directly in several layers as the frites are piled into the cone. This makes it easy to eat while walking around and you always get enough sauce. Unless you have a third arm, a dipping sauce container is not practical for frites. The Liege waffle is incredible lovely caramelized chunks of melted sugar. Yes I love the Liege waffle in any of the ways they serve it - plain vanilla, cinnamon, w creme fraiche, ice cream or a chocolate sandwich (oh salivating). My only kind of ridiculous complaint would be that the sugar pearls are imported all the way from Europe and that seems slightly frivolous. Isn't there an equivalent product made locally? I'm "waffling" between 3 and 4 stars but ultimately have to go with the lower. While I like the frites, I love the Liege waffle, I love the family-owned artisan aspect, I love being able to take my frites to the park but I can't get over the limited amount of sauces, the container the sauce comes in, the lack of beverages, the very high price of the beverages they do have, the lack of ventilation when waiting in line in the summer (suggesting fountain drinks w ice please), hardly anywhere comfortable to sit or even stand and set your dipping sauce container. The Machine Gun sandwich for all the tout really isn't all that tasty - I thought the merguez chewy and overcooked and the baguette too hard. I definitely would recommend the Liege waffle and the frites enough times to try the three or four best sauces. Skip the Machine Gun. They should focus on their namesake waffles and frites only and create more sauces including a peanut satay, a mango chutney and countless variations on the beloved mayo.

The vanilla liege waffle with creme fraiche and fresh strawberries never ceases to amaze me!! It is the most delicious treat I've ever experienced! Hands down! Today, I tried the Machine Gun Sandwich and though it was a little difficult to eat, the sandwich balances out the sweetness of the waffle and the lamb sausage was incredibly delicious! I couldn't tell which spices it had in it, but it was very flavorful and had a nice kick! Loved it! Everything was perfect as usual. If you still haven't experienced Bruges, you should put it at the very TOP of your "To-Do" list this week.

  • P V.

The fries and mayo and the Belgian waffles were good. My wife tried the Machine gun sandwich but said next time she will stick to the fries and waffles. She said the sausage in the sandwich didn't taste good. Overall we thought the place was a little overrated.

    (3)
  • Brian S.

First, let me say that I am no a waffle eater. They never taste as good as they smell. BUT, Bruges is in a league of their own. First, they use a yeast based batter... and you taste it. Their toppings are freshly made and inspired. Bruges, artisnal Waffles... period.

    (4)
  • Procter F.

Wow, this place absolutely blew me away. You could take Bruges and put it in LA, SF or any other city and it would still measure up and surpass the competition. The Machine Gun Sandwich is worth all the hype and the sausage which I believe was lamb is definitely worth mentioning. We topped off the sandwich with a waffle with strawberries and cream which was equally as amazing as the sandwich. When I come back to Utah next year for skiing I'm definitely stopping by this place on my way up to the mountains. A pleasant surprise and truly worthy of five stars.

  • Joe S.

I am a big waffle fan, but Bruges takes waffles to a new level. As my first Liege waffle experience, I tried the vanilla waffle with Belgian Speculoos and ice cream on the recommendation of the owner. Delicious Bits of vanilla and sugar were mixed into the waffle dough, and the Speculoos/ice cream combination was the perfect mix of crunch, spice, and sweetness. Speculoos sounded familiar, and as I enjoyed the dish, I remembered the Dutch Speculaas cookie from childhood. Frites are also delicious. I actually came back the same evening to try their machine gun sandwich, a delightful concoction of merguez, frites, baguette, and aioli. The staff is very friendly and will give you great suggestions for the waffles and frites. I will certainly be back the next time I am in Salt Lake.

  • Max K.

The waffles here are fantastic! My favorite topping is the whip cream. They whip this stuff with fresh cream daily and it's to die for. The fries are great but the dips they have for them are even better. I like the spicy mayo one the best. I'd give the place five stars but the staff could be a little friendlier and more accommodating towards customers. I've witnessed the owner talking to the cashier and holding her up from a line of people without a care in the world. Maybe that's just Belgian culture?

    (4)
  • Bill K.

Sausage is ok, frites are good, but waffles are amazing! Craving them right now. Creme fresh is a must!

    (5)
  • M S.

Delicious waffle. Upon recommendation of the cashier, I ordered the vanilla waffle with homemade creme fraiche and strawberries. Came out warm and sweet after being freshly prepared. My one complaint would be the cost - with toppings, the order came to about $8. Ever though strawberries were not in season when I visited, I don't think the ~2 sliced strawberries justified the additional $3. If you visit in the winter, don't plan on being able to grab a seat inside - it's a very cozy little place but not somewhere you can necessarily linger.

    (4)
  • Tracie S.

OMG! These are the BEST waffles I have ever had. They make everything fresh and don't cook it until you order which means it takes some time to get your order but it is absolutely worth it! The machine gun sandwich is also amazing- lamb sausage on a fresh baguette (bought locally from vosen's bakery) with frites and spicy andalouse sauce. I go with my fiance often and we share a sandwich so we have room for a waffle.

    (5)
  • Sarah B.

The waffles are unlike any waffle I've ever had! Sooo insanely good that I can't even describe! The fries were nice and crisp & the fry sauce was killer. Very cool to see the owner running around too. It was so nice to see something as simple as waffles and fries done so beautifully.

    (5)
  • Milan C.

I am Belgian and I approve of this place. The fries and waffles are not exceptional to Belgian standards, but they are the best I've had in the US so far. Plus it was nice to talk to a fellow Belgian! The owner's really nice.

  • Tricia L.

I am one of the biggest fans of french fries EVER, and Bruges' frites are awesome. They are totally five star worthy. I'm giving it four stars because I can't say their waffles are 5 star worthy...yet. I still need to try them. I always go there and fill up on their fries and amazing aoli sauces. One day I'll branch out and try their waffles, and when I do, I'll update my review.

    (4)
  • Alex C.

Best waffle on earth. No joke. The owner was good enough to suggest an espresso from the bakery next door. Great waffles and a good neighbor. Now that is real customer service.

    (5)
  • Brian W.

You can't go wrong with anything on the menu - waffles are amazing; the Machine Gun sandwich and fries are delicious. The owner is super friendly... he and his staff take real pride in the food they prepare -- if it isn't 100% up to their standards, they will toss it out and start again before serving you.

Does it seem odd I only write reviews of places I enjoy? Anyway, the more positive better. Bruges helped me get through a challenging time while I was in SLC. My stays weren't terrible, but were not terribly exciting either. My at least 2x visit a week to my mainstay for dessert was the highlight of my weeks here. Unfortunately, I never had a full meal here, but I should have. Next time, this is one of my required stops if ever I'm in UTAH again. I recommend the waffle with the speculoo spread. I don't know exactly what it is, but it's crunch, sweet, and complements the almost overly sweet waffle. Warning it looks like peanut better, but it's not. I has a definite European taste (whatever that means but what comes to mind) that helped escape for a moment from whatever I was running from at the time. The plain waffle is excellent has a snack too...but I encourage you to try the other items on the menu and don't be like me...:-)

    (4)
  • Seann O.

Best waffles I've ever eaten, period. And you can get whatever you want on them - big fresh fruit, chocolate, homemade whip cream, etc. Tasted incredible! They also have some huge, unique sandwiches and some other things, but small menu; doesn't matter to me when you do so very well at making those things (to be fair, all we had were the waffles)

    (5)
  • Doug D.

Excellent waffles-but only open at 9am on workdays? 9am is worth rethinking...

Fantastic place for original style waffles! I Highly recommend coming here. Tell the owner, that the people from California that know the Doctor from Draper sent you.

I try to stop by anytime I am in Salt Lake. Most recently I had the Flemish Stew and Frites which were very good. I, unfortunately, didn't get a wafel this time but they are wonderful.

  • jack d.

Had the torpedo which was waffles and dark chocolate. It was great and I don't even like dark chocolate. Colleague had the machine gun which was an inordinate amount of food and tasty.

    (5)
  • Siobhan F.

Those fries though. I can't even. Probably top 5 best fries I've ever eaten. Super teensy inside, and I can imagine there is a wait fairly often, but the food came out fresh and hot. I ordered a Freak N' Dog, and my man got the "Machine Gun" sans bun. The sauces were really yummy and I actually thought that the sausages were fantastic. The lamb sausage that comes on the machine gun is well seasoned and has just a hint of heat. The sausage that comes on the freak n' dog is tender and reminds me of Irish white pudding in texture and sort of flavor too. I would definitely go back to try the waffles in the future.

Excellent food . The place is tiny and very limited seating. The lamb sandwich is very greasy, but good. Oh and they have Mexican soda, my favorite.

Perfect combination of a sweet, but not sickening crispy and toothy waffle. I thoroughly enjoyed the rhapsody. It was the perfect size for sharing and the creme fraiche was divine.

Street waffles, heck yes! Best waffles ever, topped with creme fraiche, speculoos spread, and strawberries--it does not get any better.

How did I live in Utah for so long without grubbing at Bruges??? I have no idea. And I regret it. Ordered a Machine Gun minus the bread--so just the two sausages and some fries covered in sauce. Them fries...WOW. So good. Perfectly crunchy exterior and creamy interior. The sausages had a slightly spicy kick and the sauce went well with everything. Had a few fries left over after each the sausage, so I grabbed some of their curry ketchup which was absolutely awesome. Definitely gotta get my waffle on here next time.

    (4)
  • Lisa C.

Do not make the same mistake as me. Don't eat this for breakfast and don't eat it by yourself! Don't get me wrong. It's delicious! It is just too sweet to be your first meal of the day, haha. I ordered the Liège Waffle topped with fresh strawberries and crème fraîche. It's not that big. But once you start eating... the sweetness gets to you. (I recommend a cup of coffee to go along with this waffle.) The waffle has a nice crunchy and sweet exterior. The inside isn't soft like a Belgian waffle. The strawberries were fresh and plenty and the crème fraîche complemented the strawberry and waffle perfectly. It's a bit pricey for my liking. But hey, I saw it on Man vs Food and I just had to try it. Street parking. Limited seating area.

    (4)
  • Kennedy R.

Easily the best waffles around. I always get the Torpedo Waffle which is insanely good. I occasionally get a scoop of ice-cream on top. It's about $5 for a waffle that can fit in your palm and you may think you're getting ripped off but once you start on it, you'll completely understand! It fills you up so fast and it's delicious. I love the patio that above the building, so nice and quiet. The parking is a pain, you're in luck if you find a spot. Overall, the service and food is amazing! Would definitely recommend to others.

    (4)
  • Ike B.

The Machine Gun. Drool. I've been to both locations (Sugarhouse and Downtown). The staff of both are well trained, happy and quick. Both locations are clean and well maintained.

    (5)
  • Jessie M.

I'm giving them 3 stars because of their service. Their waffles are great but you can't be in the hospitality industry and not be hospitable. They acted like they were doing me a favor by even taking my order. There rest of the time, they just played on their iPad. Maybe it was just those 2 guys that were there that night. I want to give another try and will revise this is necessary. Loved the waffle though.

    (3)
  • Amy W.

Definitely one of the best breakfast places I have ever been to! Though to some it may sound like a strange combination, you must get both a waffle and fries! It's the perfect combination of salty and sweet that just can't be beat. They also offer numerous toppings for your waffle (such as fruit, Belgian chocolate, etc.) that add to the deliciousness of the meal! 10/10 recommend!

    (5)
  • Monica V.

I find myself craving the delicious waffles here at Bruges on a pretty consistent basis and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, so they're definitely doing something right. Although they may be a little pricier than other places, everything is made to order and the level of quality just can't be beat elsewhere. My favorites from the simple menu are the waffle monster, fries, and Belgian hot chocolate.

    (5)
  • Greg A.

Delicious and fabulous. I consumed the Monster Waffle and found it delectable. My only beef is about the price. I don't feel like I'm getting $9 worth, sorry. Inexpensive ingredients with high margins felt wrong to me. Highly delicious, don't get me wrong, but in my opinion, definitely askew on the pricing paradigm.

    (4)
  • Grace H.

The fries are a mound of greasy goodness. The fruit they use is fresh and ripe. Try have a great selection of fry sauces and is suggest the zango or the curry one! Super friendly and helpful staff. Only downside is the lack of seating, but I guess they operate more as a walk up window though.

  • Eric L.

We come to Salt Lake once a year and this is a must! The waffles are to die for with a little creme fraiche and fresh fruit. Where else do you have to get a side of fries with your breakfast?

    (5)

Oh. My. Yum! Amazing liege waffles with sugary goodness! Had the monster love and recommend it, but also tried the Freakin Dog and wow! Excellent flavors and fantastic fries!

One of my favorite spots in SLC. Different, authentic, high-quality ingredients (vive le merguez!), cool owner, good location. I wish the downtown place was bigger and not so stiffling inside, but they work hard and are good at what they do. If there are a lot of people, the wait time can get a little long.

Saw there was a Belgian waffles and fries place that was talked about a lot, and I decided to give it a try. Amazing waffle with speculoos and creme fraiche and fries with garlic aioli.

    (5)
  • Daniel B.

If you want some of the best Belgian waffles in Salt Lake City this is the place. Heard about this place from the show "Man vs. Food" and went to check it out. Their waffles are simple but deliciously, hearty and dense because they are not made from traditional batter, but are dough-based. There are, what I call, "magical" sugar crystals cooked into the waffle itself and when you top one with fresh strawberries, whipped cream, and real Belgian chocolate, it is a combination to die for. Their Machine Gun sandwich is awesome. Fresh-baked bread + crispy frites (Belgian fries) + sausage + lots of creamy Belgian spicy mayo = a unique and satisfying sandwich that I would recommend to anyone!

    (5)
  • Lindsay R.

My friend hyped up this place for me. I was expecting a huge waffle bar. This was totally not what I got. I ordered a cinnamon waffle with fresh fruit, the bf ordered the machine gun sandwich. Both were good....definitely not worth the price though. My waffle was about $10 and so was the sandwich. This place did not meet my expectations after having been on Food Network. I would try it again though, just to give it another chance.

A great little nook that has truly come of age since its humble food truck beginnings. You can credit these guys for leading the charge in taking the waffle from the syrup soaked slums of IHOP and showcasing them in the way that they are truly meant to be enjoyed.

Stopped at Bruges Waffles and Frites on the way out of Salt Lake City a few weeks back. My daughter found this place online, so we decided to give it a try. It is a little walk up outdoor seating restaurant nestled amongst a very nice fresh food market. Their is a big park across the street and parking was close by. Just a walk across the street. We where there on Sunday morning, so not many people where around. The waffles are excellent. We had several different ones and everyone raved. I had the Vanilla Liège Waffle with blueberries and cream. I was amazing. Light and crispy waffle with fresh blueberries and a fluffy whipped cream. The waffles are not huge and the prices are a little high. You order your waffle then add to it. So watch out for that. You may do better ordering one of the combination items then substituting what you want for what they offer. Not sure if that works or not. Give it a try and let all of us know.

Not as good today. Both my friend and I thought our waffles weren't fully cooked. Wasn't in a hurry so that was too bad. I'll try again... Third times a charm.

Where I'm from, we have this place called Waffle House. It gets a lot of flack for being cheap, open 24 hours a day, and not necessarily the paragon of healthy eating or cleanliness. But, I love it, in part because they do make some pretty good waffles. It was the Waffle House waffle that I mistakingly walked into Bruges expecting - a really good, fluffy, not-so-sweet breakfast item. And this is not the case. I don't think I have words to adequately describe the delicious texture and flavor of the liege waffle here if you've never had one before. It's sweet - very sweet, and dense. It's got some chew to it, and almost reminds me of a cross between a macaron with the heft of a cake donut. That is, if those macarons and cake donuts were some of the best desserts you've ever had in your life. I topped my little piece of griddled heaven with fresh strawberries and creme fraiche, which were a perfect combination. The storefront is tiny, with just six seats at a bar inside, but there's a rooftop patio and several outdoor tables overlooking the park. Service was friendly and quick as the breezed through the line that quickly formed as I was enjoying my waffle. This is one of those places that truly exceeded any expectations I had for Salt Lake City, and a spot that I'll certainly recommend to others.

I love these waffles! Ordered the waffle monster and shared it with my boyfriend. After the last bite, I regretted not ordering my own....and maybe 5 more. They're so good! We were passing through town, so I couldn't go back, but this is definitely on my hit list for every time I come back to Salt Lake City! The frites were also wonderful. However, we had it with the Flemish Stew which was kind of salty and not that impressive to me. Regardless, this place is awesome!

Found this little restaurant while looking for a place to have a fast lunch. It's a bit hidden and small but the day was nice so sitting outside was not a problem. We had the Ricky burger with frites and it was delicious! The staff was very welcoming and the food was ready within minutes. The frites were perfectly cooked and the burger was super tasty. The food was definitely great and this is now one of our new favorite places in Salt Lake!

I had the torpedo waffle with raspberries and it was delicious. The waffle was cooked perfectly and the melted chocolate in the middle was the perfect touch. They also gave a generous helping of raspberries (more than I expected).

I lived in Portland and this is exact kind of creativity that you find in the food carts all around town. Very good European street food ! Its a great place to be on a sunny day on a cold day you might want to get it go. Fries are excellent aioli sauce is wonderful. Got a freakn dog the baguette was excellent and the curry sauce was really good. I will be back to try waffles.

This was a good spot. I say good and not great because their "machine gun" was just ok. The sausage was very flavorful and their sauces are outstanding... But the sausage is small (that's what she said) and the main item is French fries. Don't get me wrong it is good, just not great. They make waffles fresh there but I didn't try them. The service was outstanding and the people friendly. To go is the main option as limited seating is available.

This place. It's delicious (better than most trucks I've eaten at in Belgium) and cheap $4-$6 for a waffle is an okay price. The real deal, too. Frites are good, and you can of course get them with mayo, as do the Dutch. Eat here.

Making my way through a few states on my most recent road trips I found this little gem in Salt Lake City, Utah. Its a small little hole in the wall with a few chairs and tables outside. Being a fan of waffles and frites (fries) I decided to give it a go and boy was I one happy girl after snacking here. The place offers various waffles and toppings, burgers, dogs, and even their own housemade mayos. The housemade mayos are $0.65 each. You can choose from regular mayo, aioli, greens, lemon pepper dill, sensation, brasil, fry sauce, curry, zango, andalouse, samuri, and afterburn. I tried the aioli and it was absolutely my favorite! I also had andalouse, and curry. These were good as well. I also had the sugarhouse waffle with berries and cream. Served with vanilla bean ice cream, fresh berries, and bananas $9. The waffle was light and the texture was great. Sometimes waffles can be a little grainy but these were perfectly soft and smooth in the middle and a little crunch on the outside. The Freak'n Dog for $9.25 was also very tasty! Fresh baguette stuffed with freakandel, chopped onion, mayo, and curry ketchup. The baguette was wonderfully made. Soft on the inside and crunchy on outside. Served with frites. You really can't go wrong here. This dog was full of flavor! Frites are served in 3 different sizes small, medium, and large. I had the medium size with aioli and andlouse for the dipping sauce, as well as standard ketchup for $5.33. The fries were just like I like them, soft and hot!. I was seriously in heaven snacking on these frites dipped in aioli and andalouse!! I don't know when I will find myself in Salt Lake again but when I am I will definitely pay another visit to this fantastic place!

Soo to start things off, Bruges has one of the best waffles I've ever had. So you know if you come here, you can't go wrong with ordering a waffle. I ordered the machine gun sandwich and all honesty, it wasn't worth it. Im glad I ordered just for the experience but i would never order it again. It is to expensive for basically a loaf of bread loaded with fries. The sausage wasn't amazing, pretty average taste all around for the whole thing. The waffle makes up for the machine gun experience which is why this place still gets 4 stars from me. Definitely go for the waffles, they will blow you away!

If you are ever in Salt Lake City you HAVE to stop in. The menu is small, but don't let it fool you. It's delicious. They offer multiple interesting sauces for the fries- I got the sauce "Brazil". It was unbelievable!!! The fries were also amazing. Seriously all the way around impressed. Try the Freak'n Dog! I will be back if ever in the area.

My girlfriend loves their dessert waffles. And while I enjoy them enough...I wouldn't kill a man...or even a mouse for another. A fly? Yes. A caterpillar? Maybe.

So so soooo amazing. I absolutely love this place! I always get the torpedo waffle with fresh strawberries and ice cream! That amounts to $10 which can be a bit pricy, but I don't go often so it's alright. I do wish they would make toppings just $1 though. Their frites are really good too, love their fry sauce! They aren't too greasy and have a nice crunch to them. Definitely recommend this place and will definitely continue to come back! PS. Remember to watch out for the interesting fountain inside!

As you can guess the waffles here are amazing. My boyfriend and I always split the Waffle Monster and we get creme fraiche instead of ice cream, small fry (which there is always plenty leftover), and one of their sauces to go with it. Very quick service. Always very satisfied with the service and food.

It is like God invited you to breakfast and made you waffles. They are that freaking amazing. Best waffle I have ever had in my life hands down. I'm serious.

I love this place. The waffles (I always get a chocolate-stuffed liege waffle with creme fraiche) are divine and so are the fries (andalouse sauce is amazing). But I can only come every once in a while because the combo of carbs and diet coke is a huge gut bomb. Totally worth it, though.

The waffles were really unique but not in a really good or bad way. Just different. We also ordered the burger with onion rings and they were little onion rings cut up and fried which were ok. The French fries were delicious. The waffles weren't really hot. No bathroom really close and no place to eat inside. It's ok.

SALT LAKE CITY: Hubba hubba- this place is awesome! Ambience is not much to speak of; tiny closet of a shop on a big road; three chairs inside and two on the sidewalk. A pair of waffle makers behind a register. Standing room only. Get ready to make your car a little messier. They have two very different food groups served here: Sweet Waffles and Big Sandwiches. They don't really go together at all; but of course I gluttoned it up and tried both for this review. Waffles: 5 star - they are light, but a little crispy/crackly, unlike the bready ones I make at home, but with a little bit of "chewy" consistency as well. There is a hint of a "sheen" to the outer veneer of the waffle, caused no doubt by the superheated sugar in the batter. Think of a really good waffle cone at the ice cream store, then add cinnamon and vanilla. Next, pour that same batter into a huge Belgian waffle maker, and take it out before it goes crispy all the way through. Then top it with amazing creme fraiche and either strawberries or bananas. Epic! Sandwiches: I had the "Machine Gun Sandwich" which was featured on man vs. food. Oh my gosh, 5 star. It has this chewy, crispy outside/soft interior bread roll, layered inside with 2-3 spicy lamb sausages. The sausages taste a little like spicy gyro meat, and have the look and size of sausage links you eat for breakfast. Then they pile it up with these lightly seasoned, medium cut, double fried French fries they are famous for. The French fries were excellent; just medium-crisp, delicious fries. Then came the sauce, which sent me to Tastevana: it brought it all together and elevated my spirit from my body. It is mayo-based, with a ton of Cajun-Mediterranean type spices added to it. Very spicy, but not in a brunt-force way like a Habanero or a Buffalo Wing, more subtle, and WAY more flavor than either. Awesome! My 4 year old ate it! My 7 year old ate it! And these kids mostly eat PB&J and Kraft Mac; it was good enough to pull them way outside their comfort zone! I would delightfully return tomorrow for another round.

Tiny little cafe with big character, great waffles and some meals. More of a desert stop than a meal stop. Small bar inside to munch waffles. Top quality ingredients and great waffle texture. Even had pumpkin waffles for fall!

We had orders for 4 people and ended up spending nearly $50 for dessert! However, it was really good. The service was excellent. They even boxed up one of our items so it would keep nicely for the trip back to the hotel for my son. Hate to add, but was part of our experience, we had an intoxicated injured homeless man hanging near/talking/begging as we were eating. The workers did ask him to move on when he started talking at us, but he kept coming back. There are many homeless, but this one was unusually aggressive and I wouldn't plan to sit outside if he is a regular. No stars lost because of the latter, again, staff was excellent.

One of the most horrendously fattening breakfasts I've ever had. I loved every second. We split an order of fries and tried the Andalouse sauce. They have a little menu next to the fridge where you grab sauces, so you can make a more informed decision. If you can make one, that is. There are like 50 kinds. It's ridiculous. Andalouse was awesome - a lot like a Louisiana-style remoulade sauce. Boyfriend had a vanilla liege waffle with creme fraiche - but it's not regular creme fraiche. It's pretty much like frosting...and that's okay by me. I had a cinnamon liege waffle with vanilla ice cream and bananas. The waffle was like a warm, crunchy, fluffy, doughy explosion of Cinnamon Toast Crunch flavor x1000. I died a little when I realized I may never taste it again.

Got the Monster Breakfast. First time I've been served ice cream for breakfast. The waffles were very delicious. Seems to me like they are made from a dough rather than a batter. Doesn't matter to me. They were great.

Came here for brunch on the weekend and sat outside. The table was positioned right over 2 sewer covers so we had to move the table. I ordered the machine gun sandwich, based on other yelp reviews. I didn't find it too exciting. It's a hearty meal though. Essentially a lamb hot dog with French fries on top. Wouldn't order it again, nor would I suggest. But on the bright side, the waffles were absolutely amazing!!!! I suppose it was my fault for ordering something besides a waffle related dish. Their waffles were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. All the garnishment a were fresh and surprisingly help up well while eating outside. Bring a large appetite if you order waffles. I finished a friends waffle dish and it was still tasty even after remaining outside on the table for 15 minutes. My 5 star review is solely for their waffles, not for the machine gun sandwich which is 2/5 stars.

This place is delicious. I saw it on Man V Food and was very intrigued by the Machine Gun sandwich. However we ended up going here during breakfast and I couldn't pass up the Monster Waffle and Torpedo at 10:30 am. Both were great. Fresh fruit on a freshly cooked waffle is money, especially with ice cream and speculoos, which you may or may not have heard of. It's an awesome cinnamony cookie cream paste thing that they use as a spread. Check it out. The shop is truly a hole in the wall, you order inside, they take credit cards btw, and there is a lot of outdoor seating in the area. If all the tables are taken directly out in front, take the stairs next to the pig (it'll make sense when you get there) and head up to the roof deck area. There are even a few electrical outlets up there if you want to charge your phone while you eat and people watch into the park across the street. I'll be back!

Absolutely fantastic! Made my day. I was hesitant to go in at first simply because it was uncharted waters and wasn't sure if I really wanted waffles. I had read some review and the menu and it sounded more like a desert shop. I'm not usually into whipped cream and chocolate on my waffles or in my breakfast at all. This place is the exception to the rule. To start I want to talk about the staff. I open the door and all I can here is music from the radio. I guess it must have been a slow morning and they were just jamming while prepping and cleaning. It was pretty amusing actually. They were almost embarrassed when we walked in and they quickly reached to turn down the radio. The young lady at the counter explained to me that they usually get short bursts of people coming in. And just like clock work within five minutes of arriving the tiny room was packed with people wanting amazing cuisine. The young girl running the counter was very much on her game explaining the menus and helping every one figure out what everything was and no matter how bone headed the question or how confused the customer, she was able to sort it out. Just as quickly as the place filed up, she had everyone orders in and the room cleared. Very impressive I must say. Now on to the best part, the food. The menu was small easy to read and to the point. The only problem you have is picking only one thing. Me and my girl friend decided we would each pick one thing we wanted and then taste each other's. I picked the "machine gun" and she picked the "freak'n dog". Then we also decide to order a "torpedo" with creme fraiche. I wanna start with the waffle in its self which was cooked perfectly. The torpedo is a dark chocolate stuffed waffle with what ever toppings you want. And I can't even describe how perfect it was. Just crunchy outside and chewy and just flavorful. So good that my girl friend would even share the last bite with me. Now onto the machine gun which is basically a submarine roll filed with a couple of sausages with their frites and their take on fry sauce or something but it was amazing. The sauce that they put on top of the frites was amazing. Again my girl friend was making sure to get hers by doing her frites into my sauce. It was stuffed so full that I had to start it with a fork and knife before I could even pick it up. I was extremity satisfied with everything. So to sum it all up, I would highly recommend this tiny waffle joint, which sits in the shadow of some huge deli, to anyone that appreciates a good waffle. The staff was extremely friendly and skilled. It has a very welcoming vibe and interesting as well as humorous decor. But despite all that the food was phenomenal. I will definitely be returning.

Best fries I've ever had. I tried the Samurai sauce the first time and then the aioli. Both were very good! The vanilla waffle with strawberries and creme fraiche was so good...I was sad when I was finished because it was so good. There isn't a lot of indoor seating...but plenty outside upstairs.

The food is so authentic. Having lived in France I can attest that this is the real deal. The food is always fresh and amazing. It is pricey, but you get what you pay for! Highly recommended!

The rating almost says it all but not really. If you are looking for health food, this is not the place for you. Frites, waffles and gut busting baguettes filled with lamb sausages dominate the menu. Standing room only is part of the charm. Their signature sandwich is called the machine gun. The food will literally kill you, if you over do it. Order with caution and enjoy!

A friend suggested I try out this place while I was in town for business. Area seemed nice, there was ample parking and service was friendly. Ordered the torpedo waffle with strawberries and bananas. It was a bit too sweet for liking, which is odd because I have the biggest sweet tooth in the world! The waffle was light and yummy, but I could taste little sugar crystals with each bite and it was smothered with way too much chocolate that even the fruit was a bit overbearing. Next time I go back, I definitely plan on trying their frites though! Smelled delicious!

I've been eating these waffles since Pierre had a cart in the farmers market and his sweet wife was cutting the fruit in the back. Nothing has changed. These waffles are amazing. The texture is excellent, they are the perfect amount of crunchy and soft. The creme fraiche is on point! Not to mention the awesome customer service (I went in on Saturday night). Merci pour tout, Pierre!

  • Tyler P.

FYI they don't make crepes. Plan on smelling like fried food In this small cramped shack. They do have seating outside on the sidewalk but you gotta go in to order. Top shelf waffles make this a must visit if you are into such things. The hobo watching is second to none across the street. Got to witness a bum fight over a bottle of booze. Does it make me a bad person for watching? Maybe. It definitely makes me a bad person for cheering it on.

Besides the most delicious waffle I've ever had, I'm giving this place 5 stars because the owner is a class act. I've never been to his restaurant and he could probably tell, he was nice enough to take the time to explain the process he uses to make waffles and his frites. If only every restaurant had such exemplary customer service, the world would be a much better place. The waffles that are dipped in chocolate and wrapped in plastic by the register are the most AMAZING "on the go" dessert I've ever had. Don't just buy one, buy 10. You can thank me after your first bite.

fries are perfect here. they are made fresh and are thick cuts with big portions. waffles are good too. my favorite burger is the ricky burger. it's a pork patty with bbq sauce and its good. machine gun is good too and comes covered in mayo. ice cream topped over their torpedo waffles are good too. never had anything here i didn't like. it opens late and it's good prices. i recommend this place to everyone

You HAVE to try the waffles and frites. Seriously. You won't regret either. I had the waffle without anything extra (because I wanted both waffles and fries), and even without any of the toppings, it was delicious. Sweet and crunchy and soft all at the same time. The small order of frites is still pretty large, so anticipate either eating too much or sharing. You get to pick a sauce/dip on the side and the choices are numerous. I unfortunately don't remember which one I got, but it was yummy. The people who work there are really nice and helpful. i didn't know what to order at first so I asked the girl behind the counter for a recommendation, and she told me what her favorites were as well as the more popular selections. She also didn't appear to be judging me for my large food order, so she got an extra star for that! The seating is the only potential downside to Bruges. There is limited-at-best indoor seating; the rest is outside either on the sidewalk or roof. If it's not too cold or windy, I recommend going on the roof! You can look out on the park/people watch/throw fries down below. Perfect spot.

This place is frikin amazeballs. waffles, fries, dips, burgers, what more can a person ask for?!! p.s. the dips are out of this world, make sure to try all of them, theyre all in the fridge next to the counter. HOWEVER it does have its flaws. We ordered the waffle monster, a ricky burger, a cinammon waffle with strawberries+bananas, and fries. -The waffle monster was sooo good but they put one huge dollop of cookie butter on one section of the waffle instead of spreading it out, making that portion almost inedible due to the sweetness. -The cinammon waffle was dry...remember to get the ice cream or creme fraiche add on! -The ricky burger was good but kinda heavy after a while In addition the workers kept on talking to each other instead of paying attention to the customers. They also have VERY limited seating inside, so youre probably going to be sitting outside...sitting outside in 95 degree weather? No thank you! Overall I had a pretty decent experience and will probably come back for a cheat meal if im in the area

Get the machine gun sandwich, so excellent! Eater beware, it can machine gun on the way out too, but totally worth it. Can't go wrong with any of the waffles, hard to say no to a waffle injected with chocolate

I'm coming back for the rest of the menu!! This was a delightful stop when my friend and I were exploring SLC. We split the Bruges waffle - it was fresh, warm and consumed in less than a minute. The spot - although quite small - was packed with a list of amazing eats that made us want to stay there the entire day so we could try everything. Highly recommend and can't wait to go back.

Bruges is a great shop to visit for a unique experience here in SLC, especially if you are near Pioneer Park. However, the expensive prices and tiny indoor seating space lend this spot to being a novelty and not a repeat experience. All in all good and worth a try.

  • Deborah E.

Had a waffle from the Bruges food truck today. Based on the rave reviews, I was a bit disappointed. The texture of the waffle was perfect, and the crème fraiche excellent. However, the waffle was too sweet for my taste (and trust me, I love sweets!), but my main complaint was after paying $2.25 extra for blueberries on top, all I got were maybe 10 berries dumped in the bottom of the paper dish. So, I would recommend the waffles if you like very sweet desserts, and I'd go just with the crème fraiche topping.

  • Brady J.

Had the machine gun sandwich and a torpedo waffle with chocolate + strawberries for dessert. Great food! Large portions, great sauces. The staff were all incredibly friendly! Can't imagine coming here for dine-in if the weather wasn't nice because there isn't a whole lot of seating. But there is a patio on the roof as well as some tables out front if the weather is nice. Parking is pretty easy--came by at lunch hour and there were tons of spots left in the median.

No matter how basic the food you ordered is. It will come overpriced. Everything you find here comes in small portions, which would be fine if the food actually tasted good. It doesn't, and what they sell, you can easily make yourself for a quarter of the price. I still have no idea why people flock to this place for food, but it's Utah and nothing makes sense here.

This is the best Waffle I have had since Brussels, It was perfectly cooked and added something special with the chocolate in the middle, whipped cream and strawberries. Had to buy two it was so good and ate half of my daughters

Who would have thought that French fries and waffles would have been such a good combination. The machine gun sandwich has some great sausage loaded with frites. The waffles have all kinds of toppings to choose from, but my favorite was the waffle with dark Belgian chocolate topped with strawberries and cream.

    (5)
  • Nate S.

Because fries with andalouse and a dark chocolate-raspberry-crème fraîche waffle is a perfectly legitimate lunch. Like Jesus said in the Parable of the Spuds and Cakes, "Verily, Belgians got mad waffle skillz."

The sauces, the sauces, the sauces. I love sauces. More than almost any other part of a meal, I love sauces. You can turn a horrible meal into a great meal with just a couple sauces. Bruges has something like 10 different sauces. I've had about 5 or 6 of the different kinds now and I love them all. The Andalouse and the Samurai sauces are my absolute favorite. They taste good on both the frites (french fries) and the Machine Gun Sandwich (the thing the dude off Man Vs. Food ate). The frites are absolutely amazing, even without the sauce. The Machine Gun Sandwich is good, but a little expensive for what you get in my opinion. It consists of a baguette with two lamb sausages, frites and the Andalouse sauce all stuffed inside. I like to buy an extra Samurai sauce for $0.65 and pour it on the whole thing as well. The taste is fantastic, but it's a little hard to eat and you will definitely be getting messy. There just isn't any good way to shove a baguette down your throat. In the end though, it's a fantastic sandwich, albeit a little more on the expensive side (about $10 after tax and extra sauce). The waffles are good, but the portions are a little small. When it comes to waffles though, these are among the best. The toppings are delicious, with my favorite being the crunchy speculoos spread (tastes just like cookie butter from Trader Joes). The Waffle Monster is the perfect sugar fix. There isn't much seating inside, there are about 4 seats and it gets crowded when you try and eat inside while other people are ordering/waiting for their food, so I would recommend eating outside if the weather permits. They have good seating, a window they can pass you your food, and seating up on the roof with a view of Pioneer Park (Because who doesn't want to look at Pioneer Park). All in all, this is a great little place. Awesome food all around. I would like to see a Machine Gun Mini Sandwich that comes on a more manageable baguette though!

I admit it: I am a waffle snob. Real good waffles are hard to come by, and great waffles are almost impossible. So if you're like me, you should make sure to avoid the self loathing that will result from not visiting this little shop and get here whenever you're in Salt Lake. The waffles are fresh, made to order, with a thin crispy exterior, soft moist interior (but not mushy), with an almost perfect balance of malty waffley (it's a word because I say it is) goodness and slightly sweet decadence. Filled or not, you have to stop here. Even if it means missing your flight :)

Oh my gosh. I dream about this place. I've only been to the SLC location, and the seating is terrible, but the food is incredible. Don't pass up the spicy mayo/curry sauce. Only downside is the price.

I'd wanted to try Frites since about 2004 when I saw a TV food show about them. We tried Bruges in February. The frites are phenomenal! The custom mayos are great. The "greens" is my favorite. Delish!

I've been wanting to try this place since I moved to Utah back in August because I found out that they had the machine gun that was featured on man vs. food! We tried that, fries with green sauce (chives, onions, mayonnaise), waffle with cinnamon, chocolate, and raspberries, and stew with frites. The machine gun, fries/sauce, and waffle all lived up to the hype but the stew with frites was a little bit disappointing. I definitely want to go back to try all their sauces though. I think they had a list of about 10 sauces on their menu.

traveled all the way there from california to give this place a try because it was featured on man vs food. the lamb is 5 star, well also because lamb is my favorite. all the sauces are really good with fries!! the fries are one of the best out there. waffles are so good with cream, and i'm not even a waffle person. will go again if i'm back in SLC

What a find...this little gem is fabulous! I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch of freakandel over frites...simply amazing - so flavorful and tasty! The dipping mayos for the frites were great too - lots of interesting choices. Love that there is a truly unique place to eat in SLC!

Stopped by for an early lunch since I was close by. I went for the waffles but ended up getting the Machine Gun sandwich. I think I read somewhere it was amazing. Flavors were great but the fries were way too salty and the bun was huge next to the two sausage links (See Pics). The andalouse sauce was a little too rich (mayo) for my taste buds. I should have asked for it on the side. Be warned it can be a tad messy and a little heart stopping. But some people like that. For the amount of salt on the fries I would have normally taken it back but I had already been waiting for awhile and I was starving. Apparently when I went to check on my food it seemed they had forgot about it. Annoying, especially since when I first got there, I was the only one in line and they left me waiting for what felt over 5 minutes. I couldn't believe there were 4 or 5 people walking around me, passing right next to me, and no one bothered to make eye contact, say hi, or just acknowledge my existence. Keep in mind this place is tiny inside and these people were buzzing around me within a 10 foot radius. It felt so weird. I did end up mentioning the salty fries to them before I left. I think it's good they know so it helps future clients and the restaurant. The guy helping me was very nice and offered to give me a new order, but I had eaten enough and I needed to head out. I think next time I'll try the waffles. :) (Photos Available)

I normally do not enjoy going out to eat for breakfast. Most restaurants serve essentially the same items, or I could make them better at home. This place exceeded all expectations. We ate here at 9:00 am and I was still talking about it later on that night. The menu is simple but amazing. Best waffle I have ever had. The cinnamon waffle tasted like Life Cereal in waffle form. Also, please try the machine gun sandwich...you will not be disappointed. The sauce on this sandwich was the perfect addition to the sandwich. I am now hooked on frites! FYI seating is limited inside. You will probably end up eating outside, but I enjoy that anyway.

Love this place!!! We used to live right down the street and go all the time but miss it SO much since we've moved. The waffles they serve are out of this world!! I prefer the cinnamon one and love the amount of creme and strawberries they give you with it. They give you tons of options for frite dipping sauces, and they are ALL good- definitely one for every taste bud (well, as long as you're into mayo sauces). My husband always gets the Machine Gun Sandwich- the sausages have a great spice to them, and honestly, who doesn't like a sandwich with fries in it!?

You know those scenes in movies when a character will see something absolutely earth shattering like an impending alien invasion heading towards the planet or read some super secret document that contains some G14 classified material (anyone get that reference?) and moan in a deep voice, " . . . DEAR GOD". That's pretty much what happened when I bit into the Machine Gun Sandwich. We were passing through Salt Lake City and I remember hearing about this famed sandwich so naturally, we had to make a pitstop. Once I actually got there, I realized I had no idea what was in this sandwich so a part of my was eagerly anticipating all the amazing things that were going to be stuck in this bread. And then I found out it was just two sausages, fries, and some andalouse sauce (I say that like I actually know what that is . . . ). What the heck?! I thought there was going to at least be some bacon or some substantial hunk of meat, not two measly wieners! What a waste of - and then I bit into it. I'll say that the sausages were pretty small so they didn't play a huge role taste-wise but they did add a nice bit of spice in the background. But those fries and that andalouse sauce worked so perfectly together. The fries were fairly substantial and were nice and crispy. But what made this sandwich (and makes most sandwiches in my opinion) is the bread. They could have easily over-carbed this sandwich but the baguette they used was just about right. It wasn't too hefty but still provided a nice little bite. There were a couple moments when I was a little overwhelmed by the bread but for the most part, Bruges definitely found a good balance; not sure if they buttered the baguette or if it just soaked up some of the sauce. It's a cute little shop with some nice outdoor seating in front as well as some upper patio seating. Wait time wasn't too bad (although we got there right when they opened). The staff were very friendly and helpful as well so overall, what is there really to complain about? A solid sandwich at a solid eatery.

You could say that this place is breaking down barriers. In America, French/Belgian food is stereotyped as being fancy, peculiar, and expensive. But really, deep down, the French and Belgians are just as much gluttonous slobs as the rest of us. I got the Bullet Sandwich, which was a hell of a concoction. The Andalouse sauce (mayo, mustard, cayenne, and some other stuff I'm not quite sure of) was the kind of topping I think could successfully go on top of about anything. The fries and Merguez sausage were also great. The one thing keeping this dish from perfection was the bread...it seemed a little dried out and was tough to chew through, thus making the whole dish genuinely challenging to consume. I also don't like when places charge more than $1 for a can of soda. I wanted to try the waffles, but after the sandwich, I was stuffed. A return trip to SLC is clearly in order.

Delicious, if super expensive food. They certainly know their way around fries and lamb sausage. The spicy mayo is just that in a super incredible-sinus clearing sort of way. The atmosphere is totally grab your food and get the hell out, which might be an issue if the surroundings weren't so awesome. My girlfriend was pretty damn crazy about the waffles.

With four stars after 200+ reviews, I had to check out this place. I can see why it's so good! I had the freakanel, which is a lamb sausage sandwich. It's more like a glorified hot dog, but that makes the meal sound degraded, and that's not the case at all. The bread was solid (like the kind you'd buy at Whole Foods), and the lamb sausage was delicious. Normally I don't like raw onions, but they had been dipped in a kind of dip/glaze to get rid of that raw oniony taste. It was delicious! The fries are the best normal fries I've ever had, and I can see why this place has earned an award for "Best Fries in Utah." My freakanel sandwich also allowed me to choose a mayo, so I chose the lemon dill pepper, and it was scrumptious. My friend had another sandwich, which came with its own mayo, but he said it hit the spot. I realize this restaurant has a very limited menu, but it is worth going. This is the kind of meal you want before you go drinking at a bar. The food's not too heavy, but filling enough so that you have something to soak up the alcohol!

got a waffle from here for dessert after BF and i shared some thai food next door. it was good... made from dough, not batter.. so not the typical waffle us americans think of. i would go back for a sugary treat or to get some of those fries! they looked great. the guys working there were amazing and funny. also--- there were birds outside who ate waffle pieces from our fingers! so cute i felt like sleeping beauty with the animals haha. def worth a try and a yummy cheap treat.

I don't know what is so special about this place. I got the machine gun sandwich (their signature meal) and it was a greasy mess. The sauce was good but totally overpowered any flavors in the sub. Most of it was just fries so it felt like I was eating a fries sandwich. The tiny spec of meat consisted of a shriveled up sausage that I could've eaten in 3 bites by itself. If I lived in the area I might try their waffle desserts because those might be good.

I have been here twice once out of curiosity and the second to give them a second chance . I have never been impressed with any thing they have the fries were cold and soggy waffle was a joke I have had better eggo waffles out of the box. Why this place is so popular I will never know .

This place is so unique, and if you are ever in Salt Lake, you should definitely stop by. I have eaten here for many years with friends and family and I have yet to find someone who dislikes Bruges. Though the menu seems small, everything on the menu is rich in flavor. The aroma of the scrumptious foods teases your nose as you walk near the establishment. I always order fries, and occasionally a Torpedo waffle if I decide to treat myself.

The vanilla waffle with fresh peaches & creme fraiche. oh my wow. The waffles are substantial but not too dense, crisp outsides and soft insides with little sugar crystals in the batter. Even with no topping, the waffle is delish. I also had the cinnamon waffle with peaches & creme fraiche--still yum-- and a vanilla waffle with dark Belgian chocolate which would be amazing for chocolate fiends but was almost too rich for me. The vanilla waffle with strawberries was just the right touch of sweet and healthy. Healthy. hahaha. This place has fantastic waffles. Didn't get to try the frites or the machine gun sandwich but they looked good--and HUGE.

If we are ever in the area and looking for a decadent dessert we always head over here for their waffles! You throw some ice cream, belgium chocolate, strawberries...soooo good!

This place has awesome food! It was a nice day so we were able to sit outside, they also have upper patio seating that was available and empty. The wife had the machine gun sandwich and I had to try a waffle. They were both amazing! As others have mentioned, the mayonaise is really good, so good they sell it by itself. I added creme and bananas to my cinnamon waffle. No need for syrup here folks. It was sweet enough as served. I wish we had one of these in my town! Keep up the good work on the tasty food. If I am ever in SLC again this will be a mandatory stop :)

I ordered the ricky burger, nice pork flavor went well with the bbq sauce, tasted great n very fattening. But thats what you expect when you order a burger. My girl had the waffles n Ice cream I had a little tasted a little too sweet for my taste. Over all I gained 5 pounds, but lost 5 pounds from my wallet.

The fries were super good. There are a lot of different sauces to dip them in, too.

Amazing waffles. Whole family enjoys and can customize their waffle joy. Something to crave. Only draw back is long lines. We prefer to get waffles and eat while we walk because there is no room to really sit and enjoy.

I had the Monster Waffles. This was very delicious. The waffles have a wonderful flavor. You have to eat outside. The seating is very limited inside. This would be the only drawback. But don't let that deter you from stopping by to enjoy an awesome breakfast.

Fries were pretty good, Ricky burger not so much. They do not have ice and the drinks are not cold. There was a hair in my daughter's waffle which grossed everyone out. ... Don't think we will be back.

The waffles had great taste and texture. Of course, anything is good with fruit and fresh whipped, but this was special.

The machine gun is a manly meal. It is an awesome sandwich. They also have amazing waffles and the best frites (fries) you'll find this side of the pond. If you want better seating, they have a location in Sugarhouse.

We went here to try the liege waffles and the machine gun sandwich. It is pricey. I have heard a lot about the machine gun being amazing from several different people. I was sad to say that I did not care for it. The sauce and fries were great, but the sausage was not for me. I was with three other people and two of them did not like it, but the other did. It's just a strong flavor, that I guess is an acquired taste. However, the waffle was amazing! I have been wanting to try a liege waffle ever since I seen them on the food network. It is the best waffle I have ever had. I had the chocolate stuffed one and it was heaven. Soft, but a little crunchy in places because of the pearl sugar. In short, I will be going back for the waffles alone.

All around excellent customer service! This place is packed with character and the machine gun sandwich is full of salty, greasy goodness that will keep you full and thirsty for hours after eating it. I'll be back to try the waffles.

Right! - 4 stars overall, but 5 stars for 'you won't find anything else like this', and for the frites, That Machine-Gun sandwich: Great "baguette" roll, (I wouildn't say baguette but it's a good sandwich roll anyway), strong Merguez sausage which is flavorful and hot but not everyone is going to like that stuff. Great tasting Andalouse sauce. Tastes like Europe. And it's spicy. Definitely an adventurous sandwich, kind of weird, but something about it - takes no prisoners. I'm feeling the urge to go back and try other things, although the waffles I tried before were also unique and tasty. This place deserved to be on Man V. Food.

First time here, this is for the machine gun sandwich. It was tasty, don't get me wrong, but it was just so hard to eat. The lamb sausage is amazing and the sauce is excellent. The sheer difficulty eating it though... Overall I'd come back, I'm not a huge waffle fan but I'll have to try their famous waffles next.

These are the waffles that you've waited a lifetime for. Somehow Bruge's Waffles & Frites gets it right each time, serving their waffles with a nice selection of delectable toppings. I'd recommend a nice waffle with chocolate and blueberries, personally. The space is tight, but the patio above is a good spot to hang out and enjoy your waffles with friends.

I had the pleasure of being there while "the mother in law" was town and was able to try her recipe for chocolate mousse with my tornado waffle and bananas. It was absolutely amazing! It is life changing! And while you're there, don't forget the frites with brasil sauce

Epic is the only way to describe the authentic Belgium style waffles and frites. Lets start with the waffles. Where do you start? How about the fact these waffles aren't at all airy or light. It's a legit meal. One and done. They're sweet and the batter isn't that store bought watery crap, it's a freaking ball of dough. The best donuts in the world (save Voodoo Donuts in Portland, OR) don't hold a candle to Bruges. And the frites, or French fries... I dream about these French fries. If one in 10 people had French fries like these once a year there would be no war. The fries are twice fried to a crispy, golden perfection, and trust me, if it's you by your lonesome, a small will suffice. Bruges, unlike traditional American fare, serves their frites with mayonnaise, not ketchup. Fear not though, there are over 10 different varieties of mayo, all seasoned, flavored and spiced to become a unique condiment. And for those of you who fear change (or are vegan like myself) ketchup is still an available option.

Omg is all I have to say! I had no idea why people were raving and rating this place as a 5 star but now I know why. There's a side garage and when you see the shop, it's a small 5 x 5 foot place (literally feels like that and reminds me of a gingerbread house). Anyway, the inside seats 6 people. You walk in, waffles are at $4 with an option for cinnamon or vanilla version and toppings are $1 or $2 more. Try the scupolous (sp?) because it's waffle peanut butter but oh so good! The waffle itself is the best part - it's crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside like cookie doh (how do they do this?!). Overall, one of my fav dessert places and I will be stopping by any time I go for a "SLC run"!

Had to stop by on the way to the airport.. our last stop in SLC, UT! Glad we did because it was A-MAZING. Most delicious Belgian waffles and toppings! The place is tiny, and only seats about 3-4 on the inside. It was a nice day so we sat outside. Get the Waffle Monster.. Kinda pricey at $9 but SO WORTH IT. I wanted to lick the little paper boat it came it.... Ryan got the Torpedo Waffle with whipped cream. It was good, but no match for my Monster!

The Machine Gun is rich...really rich. But it's quite tasty and the price is a good value (that things would be like $15 in L.A.!). As a dip fan, I appreciate the wide selection they offer for their frites. Nice, fast service.

We first found this place about 4 years ago. It was the best place for frites this side of the Atlantic. We just came back and had some awesome Machine Gun sandwiches with merguez, frites and spicy sauce. Right now, they are making some homemade waffles with fresh strawberries and vanilla ice cream. This place is awesome.

Total comfort food but how can you resist. The most amazing (and caloric) sandwich I've ever had. One machine gun sandwich will keep you good for a few days. Love comfort food. Love this place :)

The French fries were made by professionals. Perfectly crisp but soft on the inside. The vanilla waffle with Creme fraiche, heavenly. A perfect snack.

After being here a few times I wanted to update my review based on the service and quality of food I got. A few weeks ago I placed an order to go for the waffles, strawberries, biscoff, and cream. When I got to work i noticed that they put all the extra topping in one container and the waffle was burned. I called and talked to the lead shift who had an attitude and said they were having a rough more and some issues going on that morning, he said If i came in he would refund me or trade out the order. My job is a good 20min so i declined and told him I would come back in another time. A week later I called in to place an order, told the guy about the issue I had last time and he said he would take care of me. When i went in he said all they could do was give me free toppings and seemed irked that I would bring it up again. I just think for a place charging $11+ for a waffle they need to be more professional and consistent. Ive had the fries and machine gun. The fries are def worth a try but the machine gun I feel like is overly hyped and got a c- on a taste level. The waffles get a B+ on a taste level and the level of customer service gets a F in my book.

When it comes to Belgian style waffles, I'm a little bit of a snob. After being in New York City for a long period of time, I got spoiled with Wafels and Dinges food trucks near Central Park, topped with creamy speculoos. But, when back in Utah, I was convinced I would never find a waffle place like Wafels and Dinges. I was WRONG! Bruges is awesome. Delicious. Delectable. Palatable. Appetizing. Piquant. I love them. I love the small, crowded atmosphere. I love the adorable boys working the fryers and waffle iron things. I love this place so much I feel my heart beating faster just talking about it. Best place for frites and the sauce is incredible as well. In the winter, it can get tricky on where to sit but in the summer it's awesome to sit on the roof and hang out with waffles. This place is the best and you need to go there. Right now. Just go.

I wish I had stopped by here earlier. I confess that breakfast food items are my favorite type of food. I could eat French Toast or Waffles every day of the week... especially if the waffles taste like Bruges waffles! I started at the top of the menu with their most popular waffle, the Liege Vanilla Waffle. I loved everything about it. I love strawberries and there were several sliced strawberries on top. Who doesn't like a little whipped cream right? And the waffle had a great doughy texture that normally I wouldn't be a fan of but the flavor was incredible. I'm tempted to sneak in after closing and snag the recipe because it really is the best waffle I've ever had. We also got a side of fries with one of their sauces out of the refrigerator. I'm not sure how fries go with a sweet waffle like the Liege Vanilla Waffle but they were still good fries. I think I'd rather them at lunch with a Machine Gun sandwich instead. I think the owner (Pierre) stopped in while we were there and joked with the employees. He seemed to be very happy even though it was late in the evening and undoubtedly a long work day. You can't really consider this place a "hole in the wall" even though it's not much bigger than that. This part of town has some fancy little restaurants that I would eat at much more often if I lived closer. I've heard good things about their neighboring Thai restaurant so if you go with a group that doesn't like waffles, tell them to snag some Thai and you can eat out on the street together.

It makes me so happy that a real waffle/frites joint has taken roost in Salt Lake. When I walked in here, I felt like I was back home in San Francisco (with, unfortunately, the accompanying price tag). I was so happy that I decided to fully indulge -- a chocolate-stuffed "torpedo" waffle with creme fraiche and strawberries AND a small frites with a side of andalouse sauce. The waffle is pure Belgium -- doughy, sweet, and impregnated to bursting with dark chocolate. The creme fraiche was a little sweet for my taste, but I suppose this was because it was made in the dessert style. The fries were delicious, especially when covered in that swarthy peasant of sauces, andalouse. And contrary to some other reviewers, I enjoyed the ambiance -- it felt very neighborhood, and was enhanced by the two Belgian owners pointing out their home towns on a wall-mounted map (not to mention the difference between the Flemish region and Walloon region). Merci. I'll be back.

Hot, crispy, flecked with caramelized sugar... Like nothing else in town. I ate mine fresh off the iron, and I smiled as it burned the roof of my mouth. You must have one. The only con is he can't serve beer.

Loved it! I've had the waffles, frites and even the machine gun. Loved the waffles with the creme fraishe and belgian chocolate, so very delicious, but a little pricey once you add up all of the extras...still...worth every penny. The frites were amazing too with the andalouse sauce! Mmmmboy.

Just becasue Man V's Food visits somewhere in no way means it's good. This is one of the sad fakeouts of the show. The machine gun sandwich is no more filling than a 6 inch sub but I can get a 12 inch sub for $5 elsewhere, without wating 25 minutes after ordering, or the machine gun for $8. Oh and imagine a waffle with nothing on it. Thats right. The waffle is $3.50 and any topping you may want on it will cost you from $1.50 for a drizzle of chocolate on up to ridiculous prices if you maybe wanted some ice cream too. Don't expect to be able to order "to go", they do not have any kind of "to go" boxes or covering for the food at all, I drove home with open containers of food in my car. AND call them what you want, french fries are french fries, Why are there idiots in line for $5 side orders of "frites"? Oh I forgot, it was on Man V's Food so it must be good....right?? Ridiculous. Beware.
